It's the little things...

Hats off to the sound guy.

I was messing around in the kuban map doing low flybys through the nicely detailed neighborhoods and I noticed after my plane went by and the engine noise faded a bunch of dogs barking in the back yards mad as hell at that plane that just flew by.

Such a nice little detail that would be missed by a lot of players eager to fly to combat.

I just love the extra effort the devs put into this game. I also appreciate the very detailed sounds of the cockpit during startup and shutdown. They could have easily glossed over some of these things but they didn't

I look forward to seeing the products get more polished over time with little details like these. Great stuff!

Maybe they could pull off birds like DCS has who knows. In any case I am very impressed.

One of my favourites is that the stars twinkle. Its not a graphical bug but an actual feature where they all wink in a convincing way. Don't always see it because I'm not frequently flying at night but its really really cool!

I will have to look for that next time I do a night outing.

There's so many little things that really "make" this game.

I still get surprised at all the little external details and animations of planes when I peek at the external view as I spend 99pc of the time in 1st Person.

They could have got away with not worrying about these these things but  still went out of their way to model, animate, texture and code them.

Wonderful.

Wonderful.

The most extreme example of this is the animated shutter in the oil cooler on the I-16, which is inside the fuselage and can only just be seen from a very specific angle.

Yeah, I felt the same when I first noticed a doppler effect and the finite speed of sound modelled. :)

I wonder if there’s an echo in some of the narrower valleys in the mountains of the Kuban map?

Another nice touch occurs when you stop the engine on some planes. The propeller momentarily goes in the opposite direction before stopping, as would happen with a real engine.

And that's not even cosmetic. AFAIK the engine model takes into account the vacuum created in the cylinders, which is what stops the prop from turning.

What I like/dislike is to crash after putting so many rounds into a train engine that it should stop because of the weight of my shells and then to hear it go chugging on by.    In all my flights I have succeeded in only getting two trains to explode and both times I had to fly down the tracks, meeting the engine.

GREAT FUN and I try to fly daily.

Church bells as well.

Nothing super special but I Emergency landed on a concrete runway after loosing my elevator controls and RTBing using stabilizer. The metal scraping sounds as I belly landed the plane was cool. I've only ever seemingly belly landed on a dirt runway before.

In VR there are so many cool features or animations or details in the cockpit that I never noticed on flat-screen. An example is the gear position indicators in the 109. Not the red/green lights but the gauge further underneath was a cool discovery for me.

Birds are there already!  I'm not sure if it's all maps, but I've heard them after several crash landings.  Don't remember last time, or if it was by a forest or what, but they are definitely already in the game.  :)

Yeah I heard them but never seen them.

In DCS they have seagulls flying at the shoreline (normandy map), really nicely depicted and adds a ton of immersion during a flyby. I am confident this talented dev team will add more touches like this down the road (time and resources permitting).

It's a good time to be a fan of flight sims.

I experience this difficulty as well but don't have a problem with it since I can see the various steam vents from all the holes I punch into it. Make sense to me that the steam plant is less likely to explode when all the pressure is released from all those bullet holes. Now the train cars, tend to go boom a lot easier.

If we ever get 3D models of birds, I want collisions with them to be possible and they should have a proper DM

Birds are great, right up until a Turkey Vulture smashes through your radome, bursts through the instrument panel and smacks you right in the face and you have to land the aircraft covered in buzzard guts. That's the point at which they lose their charm.

In a sim with no real consequence, isn’t that where they start to gain their charm? Who doesn’t want to fly low over the beaches, scare up a swarm of seagulls and go for a ride in the red mist, leaving behind a light snowfall of feathers?

ROFLMAO! And let us not forget, these aircraft have propellers! They won't just gulp down the birds like a jet. They'll get the full Ronco Veg-O-Matic treatment!

Some say if you fly low and slow enough by the Grain Elevator you can actually here me complaining about that map in RO2.

I'd love it too if the Germans had a flammenwerfer/pioniere role... sorry got off topic.

Funny thing is that you can destroy a locomotive in RoF much easier than in BoX

This is true. It's also the same locomotive just a lot older and dirtier looking. I was surprised how few rifle caliber bullets I needed to blow it up in RoF vs the massive amounts of HMG and light cannon rounds needed in BoX.

I'm not absolutely sure, because I haven't experimented with this myself, but I think mission builders can probably "weaken" trains - diminish the amount of damage before the object goes "critical".  Time for some more testing!

Always liked the "flicker" when turning on cockpit lights on some of the new planes. The P-40, 110, maybe one more plane have these lights look very cool during night flights.

Night flying seems very unappreciated.

I love it.

I landed at one of the airfields along the coast in the Kuban map. I could hear dogs barking and all, but I had urgent matters to which I needed to attend.

I looked around and sure enough, there was an outhouse near the runway! So I ran over and hurried in. I was amazed to see that there was even a toilet paper holder!

But that's all there was. It held an empty cardboard roll. That was yesterday, and I'm still here. I posted this from my cell phone. If any of you fly past, could you please land long enough to drop off a roll?

Darn virtual reality! Maybe I should have stuck with TrackIR.
