Bodenplatte...Next year (2019)

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

From what I've heard around here, BOB was due to come out in early 2018. Like January, tho' that was always hazy. Today I found a posting on YouTube in which Jason Williams does a three-hour long Q & A about (1) Bodenplatte, (2) Tanks, (3) & Flying Circus. Early on (around 9:35) he mentions Bodenplatte and the news is not good. 'Seems that it's going to be early 2019. There's a lot of good discussion here, tho' I haven't listened to the whole thing.

They will, as they have always done, release content as it is developed. Depending on the order of development some of the aircraft and maybe the map will be released this year. Final release will be 2019. I should mention that those early releases will only be available for those who pre order.

I have no problems waiting on the pacific product because I would like to see it become the best it can be.

Having spent a lot of time recently in the current BoX modules I am extremely impressed with the level of detail and overall fidelity of the flight models. So naturally taking on the pacific is going to be a massive undertaking.

In the mean time I am happy to support this talented dev group by buying all their upcoming products. I am not surprised Bodenplatte is still a ways off, this level of detail is not made overnight. I know in the long run this will support their pacific efforts and I get to enjoy WW1 in VR, yes finally!

Hang in there Jason and the gang, you guys rock!

Looking forward to these future products.

BOB was due to come out in early 2018

Early access was supposed to start in spring 2018.

Final release was always planned for 2019.

Sorry OP, you have things a little mixed up. As previously stated, it is the full release of Battle of Kuban that is scheduled for around now and Battle of Bodenplatte was always scheduled for late 2019.

Personally I am really looking forward to seeing the remaining BoK aircraft and the improvements scheduled to come with full release of BoK, but I am more than willing to wait a little while for it all to be spot on right. This team does amazing things in terms of delivery, often delivering far more than promised and far quicker too.

I am really excited for BoK. I am glad I decided not to wait until it was released because I discovered my system wasn't up to the task  after I got BoS on sale. Now that I've upgraded the gfx card and I've had a week or so playing around in BoS, it's the greatest thing since sliced bread. I am most looking forward to the late model 109 and 190 variants in BoB, and the P-38, lol. I am willing to wait as long as it takes to get a solid product.

BOK is early 2018, not BoBP. The development cycles are around 1.5 years after the previous product is launched, so I would expect mid-late 2019 with planes trickling in earlier (Spitfire IX and Bf109 G14 are expected late spring 2018??).

I'm giddy at the prospect of the P-38 - and the 262. I hope and expect both of these (pleasepleaseplease...) will be released for those who've preordered during 2018. Early summer would be nice!

It's quite an indepth discussion so it's worth listening to the whole thing.

IL-2: Battle of Kuban was due to come out originally December 2017. It's been delayed slightly but its still due winter 2018 which means at the worst it will have been delayed likely by about 8-10 weeks, which, given the scope of the project and the upgrades that it's bringing not just to the Kuban product itself but across the board upgrades for Moscow and Stalingrad too seems very reasonable.

Battle of Bodenplatte (BoBp seems to be a reasonable shortform - BOB is confusing with Battle of Britain and the Cliffs of Dover product) was announced in November with a 2019 release date and early access beginning in the spring (of 2018). The spring early access of course has to do with Battle of Kuban being released sometime this winter. The expectation is that the first two aircraft to enter into the early access for BoBp would be the Spitfire IX and the Bf109G-14 which are updated models and therefore easier to do than an entirely new plane (coming from the Spitfire V and Bf109G-6 respectively).

If you don't want to go through the whole summary I'd recommend reading what I wrote about the announcement here: https://stormbirds.blog/2017/11/17/il-2-developers-announce-three-new-products/

And also I do a point form summary of the Q&A right here: https://stormbirds.blog/2017/11/19/a-qa-with-jason-williams-on-il-2-battle-of-bodenplatte-and-so-much-more/

Should hopefully clear up confusion.

SWASTIKA ALERT!!

LsV_Trupobaw,

At least hide it or give it a warning!  I care little, however, you wouldn't want a nice picture being taken down or upsetting others!

That's just how it looks to you.

Just FYI, there's only one, not two like I'm sure you're seeing.

My reaction when  Bodenplatte is being released in 2019. I thought it was 2018 :(

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HfACcHD24LM

Did anyone really think they were going to release the final for Bodenplatte in 2018? BoS, BoM, and BoK all took roughly 16 months although Kuban tacked on a bit at the end. Battle of Bodenplatte Early Access was slated to begin late Spring of 2018 which it did, right on schedule, and if you project out the timeline with roughly one new aircraft or major feature every 5-6 weeks that puts us sometime in the spring of 2019.

Because we have Early Access its not like we're going to be waiting for it all at once. We'll see new content coming all the time. I expect we'll be seeing a patch awful soon with the FW190A-8.

There’s also a lot of new tech coming out way as well.... pretty much re-writing the way we’ve been playing the game....

Aaaaand introducing a whole new type of aircraft engine...

at at the moment I can wait for bob... i would like fixes more then dlc at the moment....  like aircraft disappearing behind distant clouds and pixelating infront of near ones....  or the fact that every time I try pressing alt-f4 to bail out it crashes my game.... seems to work fine for most people, from what I’ve asked this is what I’m told to do

I'm guessing some people did which is strange but also some people thought early access wouldn't begin until 2019.

also, Jason said that BoBP would be fully released "probably early fall of 2019" has this changed?

Oh, maybe it is fall of 2019 before its all complete. I was perhaps being optimistic and also not thinking about all of the other stuff they have on their plate (Flying Circus and Tank Crew).

IMHO, people seem disappointed but I take the complete opposite view that the remainder of this year and going into the middle and perhaps end of 2019 is going to be a very exciting time with three new products expanding the scope and scale of the series that we love. Even if you don't buy into any of the new products, we're still going to see some probably big enhancements. I'm excited and optimistic and we're going to see quite the flow of content.

I will doubt my doubt and say that maybe it'll be earlier than fall 2019, with each DD it seems that things are getting a little bit more efficient at their studio. also, we haven't heard anything from the devs about the release date since the November 2017 Q&A, so who knows.

That's the point. Kuban took 16 months.

And Kuban didn't need new fuel system management, it didn't need near Mach speeds system, it didn't need oxygen system improvement, it didn't need turbochargers to be modeled, it didn't need jet engines to be modeled.

I have nothing against waiting for Bodenplatte with new mechanics implemented which are far more important than just new planes (which are being produced fast).

I wish good luck to the developers and I hope that they will manage this task.

And i won't be dissapointed at all by some additional delay if it will be needed to implement the new mechanics.;)

It will be a game that we will play over the years. It will be better for the Bodenplatte to be good than fast.

cheers
