I liked this. I would never have thought to try taking off just looking at the compass.

 

I tried it once  following the ball but it was not a pleasant experience :)

Great stuff! Thanks, I'll do one with the BF-109 F4 which has no AI gyro. God knows how they actually survived in inclement weather!

Dont chase the ball.

anticipate it and stop the deviation before it arrives.

Gyro failure in IMC, good times.

 

When I received my instrument ticket we did partial panel all the time. My guy at the time was a CFII and a real stickler for preparing for those rare IMC failures.

Once you go IFR you never want to fly vfr again.
