Warpig Posted January 11, 2018 Posted January 11, 2018 What plane(s) does this apply to? And what is its use?
ST_Pirato Posted January 11, 2018 Posted January 11, 2018 I think it is to switch from from manual to auto, like there is for mixture and radiators as pilot helpers in the difficulty settings.

=NVA=SunGirl Posted January 11, 2018 Posted January 11, 2018 There are the arcade assistance options that only work on normal like RPM Limiter and automatic radiators. And then there are the aircraft specific options like auto prop pich and auto/manual radiators on the BF-109. 1

216th_Jordan Posted January 11, 2018 Posted January 11, 2018 Every plane in BoX has a RPM limiter If im not totally mixing this up. You set your desired RPM and the limiter will try to keep it. It doesnt do a very good job on the P-40 for example..

I only see a flap limiter on the Mig which sets the angle the flaps are deployed to if you lower them. Edit: Oops. RPM Limiter. Edited January 12, 2018 by Y-29.Silky

Well by their output a RPM limiter functions a lot like a RPM governor. So I'm not totally sure what OP meant by his question but 'limited RPM' was rather clear, and thats what we have in BoX' planes. If you talk about engine ignition prevention like in a car then of course its not comparable in the way it works to our RPM governors.

I am referring to the actual "RPM Limiter" setting in the controls menu.

Finkeren Posted January 12, 2018 Posted January 12, 2018 (edited) Let’s get this straight: The RPM limiter is a difficulty setting that has nothing to do with the actual plane. Checking the BoX in the settings prevents the prop from ever going above its maximum allowed RPM and thus damage the engine. It is not analogous to any part of an actual aircraft. Binding a key in the control settings allows you to turn this function on and off, when you fly with difficulty settings that allow it (I think the RPM limiter is “on” on normal difficulty) This function had great impact on gameplay in Rise of Flight, where it was extremely easy to over-rev your engine in a power-on dive. In BoX with its CSPs and the like, the issue is much less important, though I have busted the engine of the I-16 on occasion due to over-rev’ing. Edited January 12, 2018 by Finkeren 1
No601_Swallow Posted January 12, 2018 Posted January 12, 2018 It can be useful to bind a key for this (and the other two engine-management "aids") if you want to try the much-maligned but still great fun/practice "Campaign" in "Normal Difficulty". I have all those limiters bound to the same key, and I can fly in "Normal" but turn all three off at the press of a button and - Voila! - Complex Engine Management, but with all the other icons/nav aids/cheats still available! Best of all worlds! The other key I'm using more and more is "H", for turning the HUD off completely, Thus I can go from "Normal" to "Hard Core", again, at the press of a button or two! SP options are pretty flexible - and there are some fine scripted campaigns available now!
