haltux Posted January 11, 2018 Posted January 11, 2018 Hello, Like many other players, I faced massive issues with command management in VR considering I don't want to use my keyboard in VR like some people do. My joystick is a venerable MS Sidewinder Force Feedback Pro. It includes 9 buttons + a hat, so far from enough for IL2. After some experimentation, I found a clean and simple solution: UCR. It manages button-key assignment from outside the game. It supports profiles. So I have several IL2 profiles: Navigation, Dogfight, Bombing, Gunnery, System. One of the buttons is dedicated to profile switching. The other ones can be reassigned depending on the context. Each time profile is switched, UCR can tell you, using speech synthesis, the name of the new profile. All that works nicely, setup is relatively simple, and in terms of usage it is great. There is unfortunately an annoying bug: it does not properly support shifted keys in IL2. So you have to assign all shifted keys to something else (unused unshifted key or virtual joystick button) to make it work. A bit tedious, but not a massive issue.
HunDread Posted January 19, 2018 Posted January 19, 2018 I'm planning to add an xbox controller to my hotas setup and this sounds like a good solution to make that controller customized but I cannot figure out how this works. The program doesn't seem to recognize any of my controllers. Would you be able to give some good advice? Thanks
haltux Posted January 19, 2018 Author Posted January 19, 2018 No, I was using a standard joystick and I had no issue. It should work with an xbox joypad. You create a profile, add a "Remapper Button to Button", then assign your joystick button by clicking on "Input Button". You also add a "profile speaker" and "profile switcher".
BP_Lizard Posted January 20, 2018 Posted January 20, 2018 Do newer Windows versions support the Sidewinder profiling software? I used to be able to assign 20+ functions by assigning a couple of buttons to shift/ctrl functions via the software. Very cool stick. I had 2 red versions and wish that I kept one of them. I bought a very nice used one on ebay that turned out broken.

Thanks, I was able to do some assignments but ran into the issue that they were only working when UCR window was active. Then I tried a program called JoyToKey and it seems to be doing what I need very nicely without any issues.

Hi -[hrAF]Black_Sab. I´m using also JoyToKey and I´m trying to assigne three actions to the same button. For example: Select red flare----> shoot flare pistol----> remove flare pistol. I can asigne it but I have to press three times the button, and I´m looking for just pressing one time. I also can mape the three actions, but in a way that it repeats the three acctions again and again and run out the ammunition (flares) Any idea? Thanx in advance 15(Span.)/JG51Costa Edited February 5, 2018 by 15[Span.]/JG51Costa
HunDread Posted February 5, 2018 Posted February 5, 2018 I don't know sorry.... My goal was to assign keys to the two small sticks on the xbone controller which is working fine. Other than that I haven't really fiddled around with the program.
KG200_Volker Posted February 5, 2018 Posted February 5, 2018 Maybe the best is Joystickgremlin. (Free) https://whitemagic.github.io/JoystickGremlin/ Or voice commands like: https://voiceattack.com VA has 1 month trial but I use it and its worth every penny. You can make commands in any language regardless what language your Windows are.
15[Span.]/JG51Costa Posted February 5, 2018 Posted February 5, 2018 Y es it does. Thank you very much. Saludos 15(Span.)/JG51 Costa

Playing VR at night when you have a family is weird enough without talking...
KG200_Volker Posted February 5, 2018 Posted February 5, 2018 Make snoring sounds! Short one: flaps up. Long one; drop bombs e.t.c. Jokes aside no go for you, try JG which accepts shifted commands.

Thanx in advance 15(Span.)/JG51Costa I found how to do this. This example is for green flare. This means the three actions will automatically follow each other with 1 sec intervals. Pistol pulled - green flare shot - pistol away. It's working but not perfect. 1st push everythings works as expected - 2nd push pilot takes out pistol no flare fired pistol away - 3rd push works as expected - 4th push no flare again just gun out then back.... and so on.... Not a horrible problem. I can live with it just fine.
15[Span.]/JG51Costa Posted March 9, 2018 Posted March 9, 2018 Thank you very much! thats what I was looking for. you are right! Not a horrible problem at all! Saludos. 15(Span.)/JG51Costa
