So for the faux pacific that myself and some of the lads from IL2 Australia have been working on we have had to create a number of new skins. I will be posting links to all of them here so when you need them to play in the IL2 aus pacific server or some of the single player missions I plan on releasing they are all in the same place. Not all of them are 4k yet, I will upgrade them as I get the chance.

4k USAAF P-40e-1 Skins by Wildcat

 

USAAF 49th Fighter Group, 8th Fighter Squadron

The 8th Fighter Squadron traces its origins to the formation of the 49th Pursuit Group at Selfridge Field, Michigan on 20 November 1940. The 8th Pursuit Squadron was equipped with Seversky P-35s that were transferred from the 1st Pursuit Group that departed to Rockwell Field, California. In May 1941, the squadron proceeded to Morrison Field, West Palm Beach, Florida, to train in the Curtiss P-40 Warhawk fighter.

 

With the advent of World War II, the squadron moved to Australia and became part of Fifth Air Force in January 1942. It was re-\designated as the 8th Fighter Squadron in May 1942. The unit received Curtiss P-40 Warhawks in Australia and, after training for a short time, provided air defense for the Northern Territory.

The squadron moved to New Guinea in October 1942 to help stall the Japanese drive southward from Buna to Port Moresby. It engaged primarily in air defense of Port Moresby; also escorted bombers and transports, and attacked enemy installations, supply lines, and troop concentrations in support of Allied ground forces.

The 8th participated in the Allied offensive that pushed the Japanese back along the Kokoda Track, took part in the Battle of the Bismarck Sea in March 1943, fought for control of the approaches to Huon Gulf, and supported ground forces during the campaign in which the Allies eventually recovered New Guinea. It covered the landings on Noemfoor and had a part in. the conquest of Biak.

Yeah I can't wait until we get the real version! hence the faux version we have been working on. I will hopefully soon be releasing a single player 'pacific' mission.

Have to admit that the Black Sea map makes a good faux Pacific theatre. Every time I see A20 pics from the Devs my mind is telling me it's flying over Pacific jungle and I have to remind myself it's a lend lease over the Eastern Front lol.

80th Fighter Group - Burma Banshees

4k USAAF P-40N Skins

 

From September 1943, based in Burma, the 80th was assigned the defense of the Indian terminus of the Hump route, which it carried out by striking Japanese airfields and patrolling Allied air bases to safeguard them from attack.

The 80th FG P-40 were decorated with skulls.

N°15, "Dikam Death", Spring 1944, Assam, India , 1st Lt. Robert Gale

N°60, "The Rough Cobb", 1944, Assam, India

Edit: A couple of people have had issues with the zip file saying it is corrupted, this seems to be fixed if you use the most up to date version of winrar or whatever zip program you are using. The IJN skins is modeled off a picture of a zero I found and the IJAAF skin is modeled loosely off a picture of a Ki-88. Neither are meant to represent either aircraft, just made them for a bit of fun.

Just found this thread. Stunning work there. And what a great idea!

 

I agree that the Ju 88 is a better match for the Kyushu Q1W.

 

Now that BoK is out, there are some other aircraft that can be skinned up with USAAF, RAF, RNZAF, RAAF, markings.

 

And I wonder if modding will allow us to change the labels of the aircraft to show their faux-Pacific counterparts?

Another idea would be to change the skins on the naval units.

 

There was a recent comment in another thread about usng Kuban for naval battles. (LINK)... seems like there is a good case for it here too.

Well, thanks a lot. That worked. And I decided to see what it looked like by jumping into a Flying Tiger's P-40 and shooting one down. Hell! Almost got shot down myself. Damn P-40 is so slow that I had a hard time catching 'im, and then got a face full of lead when I did! I sent him off with both engines smoking, but still flying. And all my ammo used up. Thanks again.

PACIFIC SKINS BUNDLE

 

I have gathered most of the "Faux Pacific" skins into one easy to install folder.  50 different skins for 16 different planes.

They can be installed two different ways, temporarily via JSGME or permanently.
Skins are in the proper folder tree sequence so installation is a snap.

 
The following install instructions are also included in the download:

JSGME INSTALL:
Place the 'Pacific Skins' folder in your 'MODS' folder and enable with JSGME.

When/if not needed just disable the folder.

 

PERMANENT INSTALL:
If you wish to always have these skins available, even with MODS OFF, just open the "Pacific Skins" folder and place the 'data' folder in your Main Game folder.  
Do Not Put It Anywhere Else!

Now these skins will always be in the game .

Hi, I like Faux Pacific, great skin mod!

For the FW190-A3/Zero I made today a small ONLY AI Modification:
 

Is this mod still active / be under further development?

If yes I could support you.

From my point of view I could work on some:

-planes mods (only ai)

-ai mods, eg. better flying skills (with normal shooting skills)

-Settings for small PTO Vanders EMG mod.

 

This first mod for the FW190 (Zero) makes the FW190 to an ONLY AI Plane, do not use as players plane.

-for the 2xMGFF (60rounds) modification I deactivated the 2x20mm MG151/20, armament 2xMG17 + 2xMGFF / tested

-all armor / protection reduced to 1mm / tested

-some masses reduced to 1kg (should be ca. 200...250kg lighter) for better dogfighting / effect not tested

-2 x air restance added CxaS = 0.1 /  effect not tested

all modifications marked with //Kraut

 

From my point of view some "japanese" planes are suitable for use without modification (MC202 / Ki61, La5 /Ki100) and some like the Heavy armored FW190-A3(Zero) should be modded and restricted to AI.

 

-Concerning the effect of the reduced mass and the added air drag: this is very difficult to test, a feedback by others would be very helpful.
