Godspeed Posted January 10, 2018 Posted January 10, 2018 (edited) Hi Anyone using/tried to play in VR in this budget GPU? (GTX 1050 TI) Im IT person so i dont need lecture about how the GPU is too weak for it. All im asking if someone has tried it and how did it end up. Also GTX 1060 users can reply because then i can make some comparison about the subject. Thanks alot in advance Edited January 10, 2018 by Godspeed
No601_Prangster Posted January 10, 2018 Posted January 10, 2018 I had a GTX1060 6GB and the VR was playable after I replaced my i7 3770 (non K) with an overclocking i5 7600 running at 4.8ghz. The faster memory on modern motherboards seems to make a big difference to frame rate. So I'd say 1050ti might be just about playable as long as you have a fast recent motherboard and processor.
Mitthrawnuruodo Posted January 10, 2018 Posted January 10, 2018 (edited) I would be cautious about the 1060 6GB comparison. It is faster than the 1050 Ti by a huge margin. Edited January 10, 2018 by Mitthrawnuruodo
Godspeed Posted January 10, 2018 Author Posted January 10, 2018 (edited) Yes this is what i pretty mutch predicted it might work in low details. Could get few more fps by overclocking the card too. I have I5-3570 so 3770 is pretty mutch same in this game since hypertheading is not affecting the performance mutch/at all Its not worth it because the VR equipment are not cheap and by using cheap hardware it would be crazy not to get good computer aswell. Thanks for Reply. Still if someone is using/used VR Sturmovik on 1050TI would like to hear it. Edited January 10, 2018 by Godspeed
PatrickAWlson Posted January 10, 2018 Posted January 10, 2018 (edited) I am running on a 970. It's not great and I need to scrape up the money for an upgrade, but it's still good enough for me to keep playing. There are probably lots of people who would not find this acceptable, but I feel like I'm getting by. I suspect that with a 1050, if you drop some of the graphics settings, you'll get by too. If you don't mind a semi related mini thread hijack ... The 1080s can be had for around $550. 1080Tis are running at least a couple hundred dollars more. What is the experience with the 1080? Edited January 10, 2018 by PatrickAWlson
Mitthrawnuruodo Posted January 10, 2018 Posted January 10, 2018 Do note that the 970 is also much faster (by about 50%). The 1080 is a very capable card. The 1080 Ti allows somewhat higher SS settings. Both will deliver a good experience if the rest of your system is sufficient.
wheeliemonsta Posted January 12, 2018 Posted January 12, 2018 I was running a 1060 3GB for a while in VR and it was fine. It was OK as long as I kept graphics settings minimal (Low/Balanced, Mirrors off, shadows off/low, etc.) and no SS. Check the baseline thread here: https://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/29322-measuring-rig-performance-common-baseline/ for my details (this is with the i5-8600K CPU) Still, the 1060 3GB looks like it's better than the 1050Ti performance-wise. I used to have an i5-3450 paired with the 1060 initially - then I found IL-2 in VR and the absolutely awesome experience of combat flight simming in VR made me spend loads of money to upgrade my rig!!
Godspeed Posted January 12, 2018 Author Posted January 12, 2018 Thanks for reply We Sim fanatics love to throw money to get more immersive experiences TrackIR is still good buy
