=SqSq=switch201 Posted January 9, 2018 Posted January 9, 2018 Hello all, I got this game for my brother for Christmas, and I gave him my old stick. We tried to set up his hat switch to look around the cockpit, but he says that it moves gradually and too slow (we haven't tried snap view yet). For clarification, hat switch is just a set 8 buttons. The hat switch is not an axis and the diagonals are their own buttons (not an input combination of left and up for example). I have VR, so I do not know the best way to set up the hat switch for looking around the cockpit. community members that have used hat switches for cockpit view, what is your recommended setting? Also if there is any 3rd party software that makes it better please do tell.
Boaty-McBoatface Posted January 9, 2018 Posted January 9, 2018 (edited) I use hatswitch to look around and there are definitely a couple of tricks to setting it up in the settings with both zoom, speed, and saved positions. 'Gradual quick view' is the mode I use so when I press down on the switch it instantly looks to check 6, press right and it looks 90 degrees to the right wing, etc. For each plane you have to set up individually for best results unfortunately. Use the f10 key to set the saved positions for each plane so you can check 6 properly and avoid obstructions. You do this by changing pilot head position left right forward and backwards to avoid the strut bars obstructing certain view positions. That way when you look behind you can actually see behind and not just your seat or canopy strut, for example. I can post settings later when I get on the PC but it would be best to find a time on TS to explain properly. Regards Edited January 9, 2018 by boaty_McBoatface 1
=SqSq=switch201 Posted January 9, 2018 Author Posted January 9, 2018 Yeah I had no idea that the setup for this would be so complex, but I do like that you can customize it just the way you want. I don't know how much of that my brother will be doing to start though, he just needs a system that allows him to keep track of where I am while I try and have him follow me.
Boaty-McBoatface Posted January 9, 2018 Posted January 9, 2018 (edited) Yes it's a little convoluted if you're looking to get perfect settings for using the hatswitch but the default saved views for most fighters are adequate to begin with. Press F9 key and select 'gradual quick view' to get going. What you need to start with are the settings in 'camera settings'. I've attached a picture of my 'gradual quick view' settings for you here: https://imgur.com/a/tdfvv This would be a good start. From there, use the insert, home, delete, end page up and down keys to customize the views for different planes and use the F10 key to save the appropriate view positions. I find the default views are all much too far zoomed in so I have all my views saved in the fully zoomed out position. Regards Edited January 9, 2018 by boaty_McBoatface
Mac_Messer Posted January 9, 2018 Posted January 9, 2018 Maybe somewhat offtopic but I`d recommend dumping using the hatswitch for looking around. You can put those 8 buttons to better use. Using numpad in snap or pan mode is much more natural and you can pretty much view any spot in the cockpit.
Sokol1 Posted January 9, 2018 Posted January 9, 2018 (edited) This POV HAT 8 diagonals is legacy of time when games have on fixed views in 2D cockpits. Today games 3D cockpit allow smooth pan of camera with mouse, TrackIR... and too with joy POV HAT. I use POV HAT+translation movement (of the game). Anyway this game has 3 mode for use POV HAT, selected with F9 key, try all do find what fit better for you. Edited January 9, 2018 by Sokol1
=SqSq=switch201 Posted January 10, 2018 Author Posted January 10, 2018 Hi, Just wanted to say my brother used a modified version of Boaty's settings that he posted. He settled on snap view for left and right movement, with gradual for looking up and down. We had no idea there was a seperate camera section in the options (must have missed it) I assumed it wall under key bindings After changing his settings my brother says he likes how it is now. We played a couple mission on WOL last night. We both got shot to pieces but had a blast. I think these settings will work for him for the time being, Once he gets more used to the game and starts flying more we will probably revist the settings to fine tune everything. Thanks to everyone for the help.
