Alfaunostebas11 Posted January 7, 2018 Posted January 7, 2018 I'm trying my very first mission thanks to the splendide Guides of Jim TIM and Prangster. Despite being an expert in IL2 Sturmovik 46 with the FMB, things are much more complicated here and you need a Masters in Mission Building ...!Among the various problems that I encounter is the management of the wingman, which I do not find well explained in any Guide, especially for the landing.I enclose a simple mission, where the player takes off, goes around and lands, followed by the wingman. The latter only rarely manages to land, sometimes crashes to the ground and almost always - despite the player orders to return to base with LALT + 0 - continues undaunted to run endlessly over the base.I enclose the mission to get help of what I'm wrong. Thanks, Stebas. Willy__ Posted January 7, 2018 Posted January 7, 2018 (edited) The command to ask the wingmen to land dont work, and the only times I made they land I had to go through ALL the waypoints, and the last one was the "landing waypoint", if you use icons you can see it is different from the normal yellow ones. Dakpilot Posted January 7, 2018 Posted January 7, 2018 Enjoyed your campaigns in original IL-2, Kuban Campaign 1943, was a very good example While many may be able to help, I think you will get quicker response if you post in this section https://forum.il2sturmovik.com/forum/92-mission-making-and-mission-editor/ Cheers Dakpilot
Alfaunostebas11 Posted January 7, 2018 Author Posted January 7, 2018 Staiger,I did not imagine that the LALT + 0 command would not work ... so what's the use?For the rest, yes, flying with the player I was careful to pass and "turn off" all the yellow WPs.OK, I agree with you that the last WP is the one that marks the start of the track, but it's not a WP, but it's displays the Command Land. In fact, it is there that the wingman should take land ... but it does not, although, I noticed that he lights up the navigation lights, as if preparing to land, but after ten minutes and 7-8 circuits is always there that flies and I no longer have the patience to wait for him. However, the message Mission failed appears to me!
Alfaunostebas11 Posted January 7, 2018 Author Posted January 7, 2018 Thank Dakpilot. Kuban Campaign 1943 for me was the Masterpiece, hundreds of hours spent in historical research, in planning, in building and debugging missions and, not least, in the realization of the 200-page manual ... But I do not know how many are really able to appreciate these efforts ... many simmers want just a bunch of airplanes flying and to shoot down... Yes, I thank you for the indication, but in that topic of Mission-editor I did not find anything related to the setting of the wingmen flight ...
Willy__ Posted January 7, 2018 Posted January 7, 2018 (edited) Staiger,I did not imagine that the LALT + 0 command would not work ... so what's the use? In the earlier versions of the game the command did work! But since one of the patches it stopped, thats why its there. -edit- Sometimes when I land before the wingmen the game thinks Im still on the runaway, even though I cleared it, and thus the bots always abort the landing. (I dont know if its your case, but just in case...) Unfortunately thats all I know, I like to fly using PWCG and the wingmen there is kinda of mixed bag, some missions they dont want to land, some they do, and on some they all crash trying to land. Alfaunostebas11 Posted January 7, 2018 Author Posted January 7, 2018 Thanks Steiger, yes, surely I land first and then they should follow the wingmen, also because as long as I'm in the air they continue to follow me and don't think to land.Out of curiosity and excuse my ignorance in terms of acronyms ... but what does it mean PWCG ?
Willy__ Posted January 7, 2018 Posted January 7, 2018 Pat Wilson Campaign Generator Its a dynamic campaign generator, it started with Rise of Flight but due to the sucess of it, Pat made a BoS version. Theres even a dedicated section of the forum for it!
Alfaunostebas11 Posted January 7, 2018 Author Posted January 7, 2018 It sounds VEEEEERY interesting ! I'm going to give a look on it... 1
PatrickAWlson Posted January 7, 2018 Posted January 7, 2018 It sounds VEEEEERY interesting ! I'm going to give a look on it... Give it a shot. if you have any questions feel free to ask. The campaign style is inspired by RB3D. The software has been under development for 8 years now so it is mature and feature rich. And yes, sometimes PWCG AI lands, sometimes it comes in wheels and flaps down and then aborts, and sometimes it doesn't even try. It is probably something to do with the landing profile: height, distance, approach, etc. Forum folks were kind enough to explain dive bombing to me some time ago and it is all about the approach profile.
Alfaunostebas11 Posted January 7, 2018 Author Posted January 7, 2018 I flew my first mission and I have to congratulate with you Pat: the program seems to be beautiful and very valid!I would like to give a first little suggestion. In the briefing, Mission Summary, it would be interesting to include not only the distance of the single legs, but also the total number of kilometers planned for the mission. This could also help to choose the amount of fuel to be loaded, as well as the expected duration.Again congratulations, Stebas. PS. I'm sorry to have to go to bed now, because I have to get up early to morrow morning, but I can not wait to get to tomorrow night to go on in the campaign ...
blitze Posted January 8, 2018 Posted January 8, 2018 Easy solution to wingmen not landing, shoot them down )) Be popular like no end with your squad mates....
unreasonable Posted January 8, 2018 Posted January 8, 2018 My only suggestion, since I can only do fairly limited missions, is to find a mission where the wingmen do land reliably and look at how it is set up in the ME. Perhaps there is something you have missed that you can see in a working mission. "Ivan's War" scripted campaign had wingmen landing without issues as far as I remember.
No601_Swallow Posted January 8, 2018 Posted January 8, 2018 (edited) I'm not exactly sure what the porblem is, but "slaving" your wingman to you in a formation (with the red "target link") is probably problematic (the AI doesn't want to "uncouple" when you land, I've found). As I've tried to test and edit and test your mission, the AI ends up circling my parked plane, as if it's still in "escort" mode. Probably the best way to fake a wingman is to use your plane's take-off to trigger a full set of commands and waypoints for the wingman. Here's a version which uses the "cover" command to force your wingman to follow you around. He is set to land when you reach the last waypoint. It does work, and the AI does land, but your escort isn't in formation. Not totally satisfactory. [i wish the "Behaviour" MCU was a bit more flexible. You could then use that to "cancel" the formation in the advanced properties dialog.] Edited January 8, 2018 by No601_Swallow
Jade_Monkey Posted January 8, 2018 Posted January 8, 2018 You have to give the land command in the ME. They will land after you.
Alfaunostebas11 Posted January 9, 2018 Author Posted January 9, 2018 Thank you boys ! As soon as possible I test the mission with your suggestions...
