chiliwili69 Posted January 10, 2018 Author Posted January 10, 2018 emember, Pimax dont have any Laterial movements, only rolls, like ED Tracker, so it wont work in real vr games Hey, I am not talking about the previous Pimax 4K. I am talking about the Pimax 8K kickstarter campaign that is targeting to deliver the devices for March-April 2018. As Coconut said you have 6dof (rotational and translational) First impressions of new Vive Pro, not only resolution improvement. https://www.roadtovr.com/ces-2018-vive-pro-hands-on-much-more-than-an-improved-screen/ important thing, HTC said they aim for Q1 for the device alone (using old base stations 1.0).
OrLoK Posted January 10, 2018 Posted January 10, 2018 Ill wait for reviews but its all getting interesting!
II./JG77_Manu* Posted January 10, 2018 Posted January 10, 2018 If Oculus doesn't reveal their plans for their next HMD until the release of the new Vive, it might get interesting for me. That said, HTC definitely have to change their price policy. I got my Oculus including motion controller and sensors for 280 bucks, and got a better device for the money then i would have had with the Vive spending double. The performance upgrade of the new Vive would warant 300 bucks for me, but not more. Given that i could probably sell my Oculus again for 300 bucks, i wouldn't buy the new Vive until i costs 600€ max. If until then Oculus is going to reveal a better second gen device, it would also be a reason for me to not buy the Vive and wait for second Oculus. Gonna be interesting who wins that "race" :-)
dburne Posted January 10, 2018 Posted January 10, 2018 If Oculus doesn't reveal their plans for their next HMD until the release of the new Vive, it might get interesting for me. T FB has an upcoming event first of May, with this latest move by HTC we may get some shared info on a CV2 from Oculus at that event. We shall see. 1
Archie Posted January 10, 2018 Posted January 10, 2018 I'm always surprised at Vive pricing, so I don't expect the newer version to be any better in that regard.
Jade_Monkey Posted January 10, 2018 Posted January 10, 2018 Rumor is $349 for headset only (in Q1) and $799 for the whole package coming out later.
SCG_Fenris_Wolf Posted January 10, 2018 Posted January 10, 2018 There will be quite a demand on Lighthouse stations then, given that some of the new Pimaxes also come without them..? We'll see. That'll translate to at least 820€ in Europe/Germany, including tax, import tax, exchange rate of today, and no shipping included yet. Not the best of outlooks.
WIS-Redcoat Posted January 10, 2018 Posted January 10, 2018 I have to wonder if the IPD issue on the Odyssey will be present in this new headset.
dburne Posted January 10, 2018 Posted January 10, 2018 I have to wonder if the IPD issue on the Odyssey will be present in this new headset. If I were a betting man, I would bet not.
chiliwili69 Posted January 10, 2018 Author Posted January 10, 2018 There will be quite a demand on Lighthouse stations then Yes, with Pimax arrival as well. I already bought a Base Station one month ago, just to be sure I have one when Pimax 8K arrives. Since I am only interested in seated experience (mainly IL-2) one base station should be enough. I am also not interested in the controllers.
Urra Posted January 10, 2018 Posted January 10, 2018 1440x1600 resolution per screen? Interesting, cause that is very close to my personal guess for the second generation of VR consumer headsets. With that resolution the VIVE 1.5 should be free of the screen door effect if they keep the FOV the same. Only thing i find strange and already found strange so far, is why the use the higher res on the vertical axis insteand of the horizontal axis, as the human eye has a great horizontal FOV than vertical. So for me two times 1600x1440 would make more sense. But nevertheless sounds great. Someone originally inserted The screens sideways accidentally. It was most likely the intern.

Urra Posted January 11, 2018 Posted January 11, 2018 How many versions of base stations are there now available?
Madmatt Posted January 11, 2018 Posted January 11, 2018 (edited) How many versions of base stations are there now available? That's actually not as easy to answer as you may think. Although functionally the same, the current release version 1.0 base stations have gone through at least two variants. The first version utilized a LED array of 15 lights, then back in April of 2017, HTC made a small change and the base stations starting shipping with an array composed of 9 LEDs. There was some talk of the 9 LED versions having a bit better range for roomscale but not sure if that was confirmed. In addition to those 2 release versions, back during the development phase the base stations also went through at least 3 different variants. What everyone is waiting on though is the new Base Station 2.0 which will support the enhanced SteamVR 2.0 tracking. However, those new base stations are not yet available and as of the latest news at CES this week there is still not a confirmed ship date for them. Physically they look to be more rounded than the 1.0's. Here is a brief overview of them taken recently: https://uploadvr.com/heres-valves-second-generation-base-station/ Hope that helps... I have tested and played many tittles and experiences with Touch (The climb, Lone Echo, ISS station, Robo Recall, Space Pirate, Raw Data, Rec Room, Unspoken, Chroma. Coco VR, etc and even UltraWings). They are great and I already know what they can do. But that´s all. I have very limited time for gaming, so I prefer IL-2
