Hi folks,

Just a quick question: Is it possible to define the Battlefield Area of a Map?

I'm talking about the "red" area on the right end of e.g. the Moscow Map, because...

Moscow is well populated and looks really great in the Mission Editor (preview, click for full size image):

However due to the fact that the city is in the "red" area of the map...

...you will never see it as a player, because when you get close to the red area, you will receive a warning message telling that you are about to leave the battlefield area, and as soon as you cross the red line, you will be kicked out of your cockpit, AI will take over control of your airplane and steer you back to the west until you're out of the "forbidden zone" again.

So no joy with Moscow, or is there any trick I missed?

Cheers!

No this is intentionally , all though it looks beautiful it is not detailed enough to fly over, I think they also considered it a FPS trap and abandoned Moscow as a flyover space before it was designed. We are many that is a bit sad for this missed oputunity. But I guess Devteam know where the limit is when it comes to the gameengine

In that case I'm wondering why it's been made so detailed at all, and why there are static objects for it in the template groups, and even populated airfields?

We're not just talking about "placeholder" objects, there are pretty nice buildings in there, even some unique ones, and we're not talking about a few, it's thousands...

Cheers!

Thare are not so detailled as you think. If you fly at high altitude, it will be ok, but not at low altitude.

Yes the DD statet it would look inadequate to fly over, they where pretty clear about this when Moscow map was developed, it will not be a place to fly, just look. I wonder if the new DX 11 based engine would have handeled Moscow better. London is pretty bad in terms of FPS in COD, but liveable

Okay that's understood.

Well at least you can fly around at the edge of Battlefield Area and see a part of Moscow City from high above at least.

Which doesn't explain why areas are populated with static objects at locations far from visible distance - the further end of the map is more than 37km away from the edge of the Battlefield Area, so except for the off occasion that a Mission Builder puts some Camera Actor on there, no one will ever see.

Cheers!

Maybe, they will allow to fly over later, and it's easier to open the area, than to create a new part to add to the map. But if they open it, they will have to redone all the moscow town.

You can inspect the "tiles" that make up Moscow yourself just by adding one or more of them to a clear(ish) part of any map. I think the City Looks amazing from a distance but Close up they're pretty crude. They also have no collision boxes, etc, etc.

Learn something new every day.  I was actually wondering about this section of the map since I've been poking around in the mission editor.

Yep. I want to make a historical mission where you bomb Moscow. But I can't. Pretty annoying.
