Ju 88 fuel tanks

In the Ju 88 the engines were fed directly from the inner wing fuel tanks - left wing = left engine, right = right. Other tanks weren’t directly connected to the engines. As the inner tanks emptied, fuel was pumped from other tanks - fuselage, outer wing tanks - to keep the inners topped up. It was forbidden to land with fuel in the outer wing tanks. All this from translation of Pilot’s Notes.

In game it seems only inner/outer wing tanks are modelled - which is still plenty of fuel - and the inners empty first, leaving the outer tanks to feed the engine until fuel runs out. So you have to land with fuel in the outer wing tanks. Given that any Ju 88 fuel management in game is abstract, automated, absent, it would be a little more accurate if the outer tanks were used first - simulating outers topping up inners - leaving the inners as last to empty.

Obviously not a major issue or bug, but as it seems in game the tanks feed in turn, it would be a little better if the order was swapped so the outers fed first and then the inners - and maybe that’s a quick and easy fix at some point?

At the moment fuel systems are modelled rather crudely, and not at all to the complexity you are describing here.

However, a more complex fuel system model, proper fuel consumption effect on aircraft balance and CoG as well as manual fuel management is on the dev’s to-do list. They just didn’t manage to get it ready for BoK release. But it is coming, and hopefully you’ll get the complexity you’re looking for in the next development cycle.

Thanks for the reply. I wasn’t too bothered about getting more complexity, although it’s good to hear that might be coming, but more a case of making the current implementation ‘look’ a bit more realistic. After all, the game could make either inner or outer drain first and it would make no difference, so might as well make it the ‘right’ one. Still, if more detail is coming then best to wait for that before changing anything... gonna need a flight engineer to keep all the systems running smoothly :)
