56RAF_Roblex Posted January 1, 2018 Posted January 1, 2018 It is easy for me to say from the comfort of my armchair but sustained climbs when being attacked are rarely a good idea. I know it is instinctive but think how often you have struggled to hit a weaving 109 or 190 on the deck then they have climbed and you have thought 'Great. Now I can kill him.' and you have killed him within 5 seconds :-) 109s climb better than most VVS aircraft but they still die quickly when they go into a climb; even against poorly climbing aircraft like P40s or IL2s! Yes use vertical maneuvers but add in rolls & turns immediately. I am not really telling you how to fight, I am lecturing myself because I keep forgetting
Te_Pille Posted January 1, 2018 Author Posted January 1, 2018 (edited) Thanks a lot. Your tipps are so welcome! I need to work more in many things. This is my first experience with WWII birds. I will work on this. Edited January 1, 2018 by pepin1234
JG1_Barton Posted January 4, 2018 Posted January 4, 2018 You were pretty lucky to survive this fight! The first mistake you made was coming in on the deck. Should have made a high speed climb to get more energy parity or even advantage. You spent most of the beginning of the fight looking up at enemies who had more energy than you which is not a good place to be. Check your six more often! With all of the enemies around I was quite surprised you weren't picked off while following the 202. Also, if you see another friendly firing on a plane, let him go and cover for the other pilot. I have taken out multiple bandits following a single friendly at the same time on a single attack because none of them were looking over their shoulder! Don't lay on the trigger so much and get a bit closer with your shots. Lead your target more! The biggest mistake people make when learning a new gun is underestimating the lead you must give (I have made this mistake too). Fire out in front of your target and walk your shots back through them! Do this enough and you'll figure out how much lead you need and then you'll drill them with the first round! You need to displace more on your defensive maneuvering. Try not to cross directly through your opponent's nose! If you must cross in front of him, try to do so either above or below his nose. Use wider field of view in close fights. If you are defensive to someone right on your tail, use a wide field of view to make sure you maintain visual on him!Keep at it and you'll get better! Soon the guys flying German will be looking out for you!
