Black_Bodkin Posted December 31, 2017 Posted December 31, 2017 I’m pretty sure in Il-2 “classic” you could bring up a ‘HUD’ display with every ac parameter displayed at the top of the screen (oil temp, speeds, instantaneous ac weight, fuel remaining, coolant temp etc, etc). I’m interested in doing some testing to make an ODM (Operating Data Manual) for the Ju 88 (initially, maybe others in due course). To get good time, distance and fuel burn to height figs, plus cruise speeds, fuel consumptions, it would be really good to access accurate instantaneous ac information. There are ways around this, should there be no access to game data, but this would be my preferred method.
curiousGamblerr Posted December 31, 2017 Posted December 31, 2017 I don't think there's any way to get what you want at this time. There's been talk of a "gauge API" by the devs, to provide instantaneous gauge values to 3rd party apps, but it doesn't exist yet and they haven't mentioned it in quite a few months. There was also talk about mod support, but again, no mention for quite some time. I don't expect either of those things to make it into the next patch, but hopefully they come along sometime in 2018, before the team gets too deep into Bodenplatte work. Unfortunately, since they haven't mentioned either in quite some time, I'm not holding my breath. Sucks because in addition to your idea, there is a lot of cool stuff we could create with those two features. I think for now you're stuck reading the cockpit gauges.
Black_Bodkin Posted December 31, 2017 Author Posted December 31, 2017 (edited) Ah, thanks for reply. Guess it’ll be load 1% fuel, air start, set power and then measure time until it all goes quiet. Measuring time to height is easy enough and I can calculate still air distance ‘close enough’ if I fly a steady speed. ....bu**er - you can’t load less than 10%... Edited December 31, 2017 by Kernow
curiousGamblerr Posted December 31, 2017 Posted December 31, 2017 You can use the time acceleration to speed things up a bit. I think it goes up to 8x, and then multiply your times accordingly. The annoying part is you can't change the time acceleration while the game is paused.
busdriver Posted January 1, 2018 Posted January 1, 2018 Have you considered buying Tacview? It will even allow you to display fuel flow. And it's on sale.
Black_Bodkin Posted January 1, 2018 Author Posted January 1, 2018 Yes, I considered speeding things up CG, but I never trust it to work exactly the same when speeded up - could always try it both ways to confirm the game still calculates everything properly and then use time compression for future testing... Thanks bus driver, I’ll give that a look.
