BlitzPig_EL Posted December 29, 2017 Posted December 29, 2017 (edited) After a long time off I decided to fire up the game and get back in practice. Login screen OK. Select Quick Mission. OK Select aircraft and starting point. OK Click the START button... and I get dumped to desk top every time, little windows dialog box, IL2 Battle of Stalingrad has failed to ...blah blah blah... every time. Tried different planes, maps, starting altitudes, restarted computer, etc... It's dead Jim. *SIGH* Edited December 29, 2017 by BlitzPig_EL
FuriousMeow Posted December 29, 2017 Posted December 29, 2017 99.9999999% certain it's something on your system. Runs and plays fine for everyone else. Start working back to anything else you installed. Also, wrong sub-forum.
ShamrockOneFive Posted December 29, 2017 Posted December 29, 2017 Need the details from the CTD error code to see what's going on. Could be a video driver gone bad or who knows...
BlitzPig_EL Posted December 29, 2017 Author Posted December 29, 2017 No error code given, just encountered a problem and will shut down. Not saying it's the game's fault, but gee, it's the only one I have that is suddenly dead. I'll keep poking around. Did verify game files, no issue there, and tried every exe to start it, without luck.
Mesha44 Posted December 29, 2017 Posted December 29, 2017 If you have it via Steam try the verify cache box.
FuriousMeow Posted December 29, 2017 Posted December 29, 2017 Look in Windows Event Viewer, check out system and application logs for the time it happened. Something might be there. CTDs with no info typically are another program, be it graphics overlay or custom compiled drivers, and they will crash games not designed for them - especially those with anti-cheat checks built in. Not saying you're cheating, but custom stuff can be detected that way and will interfere with the operation of the program.
Jade_Monkey Posted December 29, 2017 Posted December 29, 2017 Someone just reported the same thing. It was MSI afterburner or some equivalent tool.
Wedgewood Posted December 30, 2017 Posted December 30, 2017 Certain Nvidia rivers can cause this, also having shadows too high. Nvidia driver 388.13 stopped my crashing problem.
BlitzPig_EL Posted December 30, 2017 Author Posted December 30, 2017 Well, still trying things. No success yet. I'll try turning shadows down and see what happens. If worse comes to worse, what files do I need to back up so I can do a new install?
Solmyr Posted December 31, 2017 Posted December 31, 2017 I got several CTDs in 2 hours playing, plus MS FFB2 problems also. See here. I don't know what's wrong at my end but that's pretty annoying.
BlitzPig_EL Posted December 31, 2017 Author Posted December 31, 2017 Well, I think I have figured it out. After the last Windows 10 update I didn't update EVGA Precision. Normally I don't as it has never caused any issues. I use it for custom graphics card fan control, and for displaying GPU/CPU temps and fans speed only. I don't OC the card. Anyway on a hunch I updated it and now the game seems to be OK. Having some controller issues but I can fix that. (game doesn't see my CH quadrant). So very odd, that it didn't affect any of my other games.
