dburne Posted December 27, 2017 Posted December 27, 2017 https://www.vrbeginnersguide.com/vr-is-taking-the-world-by-storm/ Looks like VR is really starting to take off, will be interesting to see Q4 numbers with the Holidays. This can only bold well for future development.
ICDP Posted December 27, 2017 Posted December 27, 2017 (edited) VR site says VR is taking the world by storm shocker My first though was "well they would say that wouldn't they". Though I would hardly expect a site devoted to VR to take a more pragmatic view of it. It would be like coming to this forum and the main message was, "flight sims suck" To be fair, before we can make such grand assumptions we need to consider there are 23 milliosn PS4s sold so far compared to 2 million Sony VR headsets sold. It means in 1 year since Sony VR released, less than 10% of owners have opted for VR. If this is a similar percentage for PC gamers then VR will remain a small minorty that AAA developers will see as unprofitable. So for the forseable future mainstream VR will be stuck with mainly indie stuff and half assed VR ports (see Fallout 4 VR and Doom VR). The only way I could see this changing is if a must have VR only AAA game is developed, and I don't mean another pointless wave shooter. My experience with pretty much all the VR exclusive games I have tried, is that they would be quite poor as standalone games. The only upside is that PC sim developers have pretty much adopted it as a must have feature. Edited December 27, 2017 by ICDP
