I thought that was DOA.

Not sure a bunch of us who hadnt even heard of the game making comments would do much for BOX Jason.

Who even reads the comments section of an article anyhow?

Disgusting. If they were victims of circustance and were genuinely putting in the effort to fix their game you could justify this. Though it is evident that there was purposeful deception to hide the immense flaws the game had until release, at least partly by refusal to quell the ridiculous hype on part of the developers. They essentially made sure people did not discover what it really was until they had paid for it. This game is the definition of a total scam, nothing they could do after release will ever make up for that.

That PCG actually decides to award them for this in the end is absurd, those actions should have disqualified them from any positive word ever.

For anyone needing further information,

Sorry Jason, but Il-2 was already excellent in 2016 so it's not really eligible!

Never played it but I thought it was a total fiasco of overpromising and underdelivering, the polar opposite of IL2 devs.

I'm afraid IL2 will never be mainstream enough to be featured for GOTY on these publications. They appeal to a lot of console style game players and a sim that should be played with TIR5, HOTAS and pedals will never be GOTY regardless of how good it is.

Perhaps Tank Crew can break that barrier, I dont see why not.

Forum admin, FORUM ADMIN.......... Someone, obviously new around here, doesn't know the forum rules. Please put this topic in the correct sub forum.

That is, of course, unless there's something Jason isn't telling us ! ! !

I do get the point that I assume Jason is trying to make with which I whole heartedly agree.

After some thought... IL-2: Battle of Stalingrad and the whole Great Battles series was already pretty good on release but with some serious flaws in some areas. In this past year it improved on those dramatically but it was much further ahead even at first launch than No Man's Sky was which was mostly an empty shell.

In 2018, however, I'm expecting that the release of Co-op and Career mode are going to compound the many AI, graphics, and new features that have been added into a dramatically improved series. The changes being made are so fundamental to two released and one soon to be released title that it'll big a multiplier across the entire series. Very much looking forward to that moment!

I think that depth of gameplay can win over customers in a way that graphics enhancements alone never can.

I had a guy who would try to argue with me at school about how good No Man's Sky would be. How I should dump Elite Dangerous and 'IL-2 Stormgrad' for it.

Boy did I lot let him hear the end of it when it was released! He still would try to defend it too.

Betcha there is a bit of a "comforting" action going on here. Help the people who wasted money on this thing feel better about their purchase you know...

If you play IL-2 and/or are in any way involved with the community here you already know the answer in comparison to that empty shell of a game.

To be fair to Hello Games, and Sean Murray, I think that much of the back lash was due to the runaway "Hype Train" at launch. I don't work in the industry so I do not know for certain, but Sean may have been contractually obliged by Sony in part in just what he could and could not say in an effort to manage people's expectations. Credit has to be given to the team for continuing to work on the game that was so badly received by the public on release.

IL2 has had an outstanding year when you consider the move to DX11 allowing better performing visuals, shadows, and lets not forget that wonderful VR experiance that really has been the real game changer for me. I just can't thank the Dev's enough for this, and lets not forget all the hard work that went into the FM update, the new Aircraft, and the soon to be released Career and co-op.

IL2 at the moment may be a little too niche to be recognised by main stream gaming sites, but we appreciate the hard work of you and your colleagues Jason. Among flight combat sim enthusiasts the game sells itself. It's only going to get more popular as you add more theatres.

I think I may have to dust off the disc and give it a second go.
