I am considering buying an nvidia 1060, but I am doubtful buying the 3gb or 6 gb version.

Is this sim using more than 3gb ?

BoS uses more than 4GB at higher detail settings. I recommend either the RX 580 8GB or GTX 1060 6GB for either 1080p or 1400p. VR and 4k require a beefier card.

Yes defo need more than 3GB GPU when they unlock it again (max terrains and shadows use just on 3GB now)

if you not using VR
1060 (6GB) will run 4K on Ultra Preset 45-60fps in Multiplayer as thats what im getting when i run it at 4K
(tho that depends a lot on the CPU)

Plus 1 to BB.

I have a EVGA 1060SC 6GB and I will also add....buy with care!

My EVGA 1060 SC (bought DEC 2016) in particular had a pretty bad cooling design. Its the single fan small form factor version but the big problem was the lack of cooling to certain parts of the board due to the layout not the fan per se.  I dunno if later revisions fixed it it but, for mine, the recommended fix was a bios hack to the fan power curve which was not very satisfactory. Another warranty voiding fix uses some thermal pads to transfer heat from components to the heatsink pipe. I have no wish to try this.

The result of this poor design is that my Neighbours MSI 1060 runs 10C cooler under load in my case than my own EVGA. This in turn affects the already limited overclocking I can do with the EVGA 1060 before the thing hits its hardwired thermal brake (94C).

The end result is only perhaps 3-5 fps but in some games these few extra fps would keep my fps just above the threshold of 60 my set up requires for smooth vsync a little more.

TL:DR - get one with a well thought out heatsink and cooling solution and read up first!

6gb GTX1060 is definitely better and more future proof ,but just for BOS 3gb version is more than enough even for 1440p...just don't get confused by some comments here, there is big difference between video memory that game NEEDED and memory that game ALLOCATED...

Thx everyone for your help.

You mean that BOS does not need more than 3gbs (as a matter of fact I run with everything close to maximum with 2gbs and the 670), but if there's 6gb it will use them ?.

Yes it is like that ,expect BOS is not that demanding on vram,it uses probably around 3,5gb in 1440p max sett...but it will run perfectly fine on 3gb version, same for DCS World that uses(ALLOCATE) almost 5gb of vram on my RX480 8gb back then, but it run same on 4 or 3gb card in this case...and even if game really needed more than 3gb, there is WDDM 2.0 driver under Windows 10 which just store textures in system RAM if needed. Its all dependent on the price of those cards in your country, if 3gb version is much cheaper, dont worry and take it,but if you have the money take 6gb version for sure...at current pricing avoid RX580,those cards are too expensive consume much more power(much more heat in the case)and they have same or worse performance mainly under DX11.

THX again,

At the end I have opted for the 6gb version...found a good bargain on internet (bout 60 more than 3gb version).

Looking forward to see the results.
