Great sim but how to make fighters less bouncy?

Hi there,

I'm having a real problem with flying the planes in a smooth fashion as the nose is bouncing all over the place.  I can adapt, for the most part, but it's a big problem in an otherwise beautiful simulator.  I've only flown a couple of the Russian fighters so far, in case those planes are particularly bouncy.  I am using a Logitech Wingman Extreme 3D Pro flight stick.  I have played with the control curves in the settings but that creates as many problems as it fixes.  I don't see the Logitech Wingman profiler software on their site anymore, which is too bad because I bet I could scale the input some to help with this bounciness.

Thanks for any help!

Setup Non Linear curves for your stick n pedals (default 1-1 is very touchy)

in IL2 100% Non linear is set by selecting 100% Sensitivity
I have X55 and Random pedals i run (then slowly over time im lowering them s low as i can manage as i adjust)

Pitch Axis 85% Non Linear
Roll Axis 85% Non Linear
Yaw Axis 100% Non Linear (pedals are from racing wheel work great but very short range)

Running deadzones further reduces the total travel requires and counteracts non linear range.

I owned the 3D pro before and that thing wiggles like jelly. You can only achieve so much with the curves before you have to upgrade to a better stick.

I have a Saitek x52 Pro I could use but I prefer the Logitech one as it is easier to setup and put away when not playing games. It's nice to have throttle, stick and enough buttons all in one place. I'm sure when I start flying in expert mode I will need the extra capabilities of the Saitek, but until then it would be nice to use the compact little Logitech stick. Plus the Saitek has a large range of motion that I really don't like but, then again, might make the plane more controllable. The Logitech flies just fine in DCS World, the original IL-2, Aces High, Strike Fighters and War Thunder, etc.. I'd say the problem doesn't lie with the stick but with the lack of controller setup options in IL-2 Stalingrad.

I was hoping there might be some .ini file I could modify that might help tame the input/response. If I could just reduce the responsiveness to input by 20% I'd be fine. Anyways, it's a great sim so if I have to use the Saitek then that's what I will do. Hopefully the developers will give us more controller options in the future, it's very limited as is.

Before in think that buy a new/expensive joystick - what certainly will help have better aim, do a forum search for 'bouncing", "wobble"...

Will see that planes nose

is inherent to flight model of the game, you need get used.   Edited by Sokol1

Yep - every sim or game's flight model has its own quirks, this is part of each one's charm.  I went ahead and bought a new Logitech Wingman Pro Extreme, since they are cheap, and the new one feels a lot better!  The flight model now feels very good.

I would advise anyone that might come across this thread in a search to consider getting a new Logitech if that's the stick you like and it feels like it's not controlling the plane how you'd think it supposed to.  I think the one I had was just worn out.  I'm thrilled with the game now.
