This is about my second dogfight with my new VKB Gunfighter. My muscle memory is all screwed up so you will see me over-compensate. The resolution on this thing is nice though...!

 

I'll be doing a review of the Gunfighter when my MCG grip comes in sometime in january!

That is an epitome example why this game fails to attract new fan base. When people used to another flight sims get here everything they hold true for years does not apply.
For example:

-109 can dive away from trouble. Nope

-109 can zoom climb away from trouble. Nope

-FW 190 can outrun in a straight line everything. Nope. We see how thanks to a minor altitude advantage the Yak 1b is holding 600 km/h forever.

True - I painfully experienced that. The Jak seemed to be able to climb hanging at it's prop.

That would be okay after a previous speed-building dive. But from horizontal flight?

This is an example of why the people constantly complaining about the German planes' alleged sub-performance have zero credibility. One might almost think they are "red side" players trying to make the opposition look stupid.

 

- The player shoots down Fw190s in this film - no 109s were harmed. Even if there were 109s in the fight how could they "dive away from trouble" when the fight took place at below 1,000m altitude? 

Zoom climbing is mainly a function of speed, not aeroplane type. The 109 can make a sustained climb away from trouble - if it can get out of the guns arc of the chaser.

 

- The Fw 190s did not try to run away in a straight line - at least not for more than a few seconds. Sensible, since it would take a minute or so to clear guns range at it's SL speed advantage of 30kp/h, all of which time it would have been a sitting duck.

 

- The Yak's speed is only visible some of time, when visible it only touches 600km/h once, during a dive. Next time it is visible the speed is back below 500 km/h.  "holding 600km/h" a symptom of either poor eyesight or a cavalier disregard of the facts.

Nevertheless some of the things you comment are completely true and some are completely false (e.g. Zoom climbing is mainly a function of speed, not aeroplane type).

I never said that the FM is false. Actually I enjoy flying all plane types in this game. Maybe what is general wisdom about LW strategy is completely false. I have my reserves about FM but they are explained at the relevant sections of the forum.

But it is true that newcomers in the game are completely surprised about what is going on when they try time tested strategies: il2 46, warthunder; Clod.
As for me I had to reconsider 85% of what I know about flying a sim, when I started playing this game 1 year ago.

Never thought one of my videos would inspire such debate, lol. I'm honoured. 

 

In any event, my opinion is...

 

A) most people over-estimate how much better the 109/190 is to planes later than mid 1942 and over rely on their superior engines. The second video you linked demonstrated that 3 times in my opinion which I talk about in the video, One of the 190's in my first video rolled himself into my gun; I didn't even have to aim because he surely thought "if I flop around a bunch, no one can hit me". 

 

B) The Yak-1B is an aerodynamic masterpiece. It trades energy very efficiently. 

 

I don't think this is a case of German planes under-performing. I can upload 100 videos of me losing to horrible 109 pilots in a MiG because it's completely uncompetitive if you want, but no one really wants to watch that, hahha.

 

Also, I will add that when it comes to zoom climbing 90degrees into the air, all planes perform about the same according to earlier tests from someone on these forums, so rocketting into orbit like that is a bad idea for all planes!

When you watch that video, do you honestly believe that the 190 was running in a straight line?

 

And yes, the 190 outruns everything in a straight line. There is no debate about this. Even you cannot possibly be dishonest enough to not achknowledge that.

 

 

Also, are you ever going to post sources to prove that things are wrong in the game? Always complaining but can never post anything that backs up his claims.

 

Does that ever bother you when you think about it?

Whatever - my main complaint about your post is that a chap cannot even post a simple video without you popping up with the usual litany of complaints. There is a place for them, but surely not in an innocent video post?

 

As for reconsidering what you know.... good. One of the things about older sims is that they generally depend more on table based FMs, and the developers often exaggerated the differences between planes in order to get more variety and a "rock/paper/scissors" effect in gameplay.

People coming from those sims may well have different expectations. This team tries to model according to the underlying physics and measured performance, so it is certainly possible that things seem different. They do not always succeed of course, and the FMs have been refined and obvious mistakes corrected.

Nevertheless, a large number of people with RL flying experience and/or technical knowledge of planes of this era consider the BoX FMs to be  the gold standard.

 

Most of us certainly do not want the FMs to be tweaked in order to satisfy the expectations of people whose knowledge is limited to the behaviour of planes in earlier, more limited sims. 

 

As for "why this game fails to attract a new fan base" - are you sure this is true? And if so, perhaps consider that the responsibility for some people being put off might lie with people who constantly post misleading criticism.

 

Anyway, Happy Christmas. If the game is unsatisfactory for you, you know what you can do in the New Year, as you surely must have learned by now that the game will not be altered to suit the expectations of WT players.
