FaceTrackNoIR/PS3 Camera Looking Up Issue

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

I've seen two or so threads on this already, but either without solutions or 'solved' links to threads that have since been deleted. Would be so grateful if anyone could help.

So, I'm using FaceTrackNoIR with the modified PS3 camera which works flawlessly in every other game. However, in IL-2, when I look up beyond about 80 degrees at a certain degree it just snaps back as far as possible looking behind. This is incredibly frustrating when trying to track enemy planes.

Things I've checked:

* My curves are definitely not the cause

* All three LEDs are still within sight of the camera at the time

* Everything's properly calibrated etc.

Any help at all would be welcome. I can post a video or a screen shot, if that's helpful, but there are some in other threads:

Got same issue one day, I change FaceTrackNoIR for Opentrack. And it's the best freetrack program out there.

Thanks a lot - tried out Opentrack this morning and it's so much better (and free...). All problems sorted and IMO is a better product, too.

I cant help you with FaceTrackNoIR but I can highly recommend you switch to opentrack. Loads of testing and experience have helped me identify it as the best headtracking software out there.

Thanks for the advice, I had indeed installed it a couple days ago and am still in the process of configuring the curves appropriately, I have some issues when looking back 180 deg. for instance. Also, I believe you can't actually look 90 degrees up with it too, can you confirm this please? More than with FaceTrackNoIR (without my patch) but not 90. I'm not going with my own "solution" since it is quite annoying to get those "file is read only" errors, and to be unable to change some settings. So let's so how it goes. :)

From your center position, opentrack can output up to 180 degrees in each direction (up, down, left, right, roll left, and roll right)

And lateral movement (x, y, z) up to 70 cm.

The game itself has the following limits (not something you can change yourself):

90 up and 90 down, (meaning you can't look backwards upside down)

180 left and 180 right,

90 roll left and 90 roll right (not perfectly sure about the games roll limitations since I don't use it, but doubt you would want more anyway)

Lateral movement is dependant on the plane.

Of course, looking back and then looking up is no problem what so ever with opentrack or the game.

So as for IL-2 with Opentrack goes. Any limitations you will encounter are more likely game limitations and not opentrack limitations.

Make sure that in the opentrack mapping window that pitch is set to max out at 180.

Hi all, OP here. Thanks for all your help but I've found the best solution - use OpenTrack instead. It seems to be better in every way and I highly recommend it to everyone, even if you got a 'free' copy of FaceTrackNoIR with your Delanclip.
