[JG2]R7_Blackadder Posted December 23, 2013 Posted December 23, 2013 The new rig came with unexpected difficulties in the setup I wasn't used to. First problem was somekind of shade over the cockpit view and some messy borders of the shadows. I was instructed to have a look to the Nvidia settings driver menu but without proper support i am unable to maximize the results, not to mention solve that shady effect. If anybody has already succeded in setting it up I could use some help.

Before starting your game go here; C:\Program Files (x86)\1C Game Studios\IL-2 Sturmovik Battle of Stalingrad\data and scroll down to the start up file. Open it and find the two lines in the graphics section ssao_res and ssao_samples. Make both the values zero. Save and close, start game and 'orrible shade and messy borders gone. Never been exactly sure what ssao does but its not working properly yet so much better to rid yourself of it. Don't forget, when the next access session starts and you update your game you'll have to do this again. S!
Emgy Posted December 23, 2013 Posted December 23, 2013 Question for both of you: when you look at the moon in a night mission, does its "halo" have visible gradient steps for you like this ? or is it a smooth disc with smoothly decreasing brightness towards the edges? This is in regards to the SSAO overlay effect.
DD_Arthur Posted December 23, 2013 Posted December 23, 2013 (edited) Calvamos, the visible halo with gradient steps is a Digital Nature engine thing. RoF has it too. Do you think SSAO is an attempt to over come this? Edited December 23, 2013 by arthursmedley
Emgy Posted December 23, 2013 Posted December 23, 2013 (edited) I just wondered if, with different monitor calibration, would the SSAO effect meld into the picture. Like you, it really stands out on my screen. If I reduce contrast levels, I get less obvious colour banding and the SSAO effect did seem to meld better, although it's still not perfect. I've spent some time calibrating my monitor but it (an old TN LCD monitor) does not have the best colour reproduction in any case. Anyway would be nice if it were a tickable option in game. Emgy Posted December 23, 2013 Posted December 23, 2013 (edited) Oh, the moon colour banding wasn't the main thing, I meant Blackadder's cockpit shade effect (aka "muddy goggles") that can be turned off by turning off ssao. I wondered if some users don't notice it because their monitor calibration lets it meld into the picture. Edited December 23, 2013 by Calvamos
DD_Arthur Posted December 23, 2013 Posted December 23, 2013 Does anyone know if SSAO works correctly in ROF? There is no ssao in RoF. 1
