dburne Posted December 20, 2017 Posted December 20, 2017 I sure wish, unfortunately my days of achieving any substantive goals are long over... but I have at least accomplished some things. For instance, more hours flying in BoS than I care to think about this year!
CanadaOne Posted December 20, 2017 Posted December 20, 2017 Nice looking beer in the OP! I've fulfilled my BOX wishes. I built my own rig this summer, an i5 with a 1060, just for BOX. That was my "fun" goal. In one month, January 2018, I will have had the same job for 20 years. That's something, I guess. The wife is doing well, both my kids are in college, and my cat thinks I'm just the best thing ever. As King Henry said, "Thanks be to God and not our strength for it." 2

Congrats, 20 years is a nice milestone!! My career with the company I worked for was just over 36 years when I retired. And I loved every year of it. I retired in April of 2016. 2

And I loved every year of it. I retired in April of 2016. Thanks. 36 years? You're a better man than me. There is no way I can do my job for another 16 years. Maybe three or four more tops and then it's just going to be too much physically. I'll have to do something else. Good luck to you in 2018.

PatrickAWlson Posted December 20, 2017 Posted December 20, 2017 2017: Wife is happy. Daughter is getting her act together. Dog is doing well (he's still a neurotic head case, but a sweet one) One of the two cats likes me. 1 year on the new job. Going well so far. Career: 30 years down, 14 to go. Earned enough side money to buy some new flight sim toys. Went to London with my two brothers to drink in old (olde?) pubs. Not that old since everything burned to the ground in 1666, but still, old enough. very cool to drink in a place that was rebuilt in 1668. Looking back, good year. 2018: Keep the wife happy. Keep the daughter on the rails. Calm the dog down just a bit. Maybe get the other cat to like me. Build up a good rep on the job. Career: 31 years down, 13 to go. Actually buy the new flight sim toys. Get to Europe again. Precise destination TBD but hopefully England and France (never been to France). 1
Lensman Posted December 20, 2017 Posted December 20, 2017 Went to London with my two brothers to drink in old (olde?) pubs. Good to have you in my ancient land :-) I'm 60 miles from London in Cambridge, also some elderly establishments of course. (To be 100% pedantic 'old' and 'olde' are identical and pronounced the same but the latter is an archaic spelling) 2017 for me was not getting sacked/canned - success Enduring the commute to work without going insane - partial success Surviving a new line manager - success, turned out to be a reasonable man. Getting my Oppo UHD blu-ray player to achieve a/v synch - success except for Dolby Vision. Watching Bladerunner in UHD HDR ... - WOW! Completing BOS & BOM in VR - success. Keeping my geriatric PC running despite the rigours of VR - success (actually only the mainboard, CPU and PSU are 8 years old original, the rest is upgraded. Acquiring a CD copy of the 'Dogs In Space' soundtrack music from Japan at stupid expense. Watching the idiot neighbours that plagued my very existence for 8 years move out! - SUCCESS!!!
VeryOldMan Posted December 21, 2017 Posted December 21, 2017 Not yet.. there are still some countries not under my rulership.. but sooon... sooon mhuhuhuahuhaua 1

Mastermariner Posted December 25, 2017 Posted December 25, 2017 I wish that I had pledged to go one year without sex instead of one day without a drink, I would have been proud today Master
curiousGamblerr Posted December 25, 2017 Posted December 25, 2017 (edited) My main goal was to get a promotion at work. That one is TBD, since my giant ass company shares reviews after the new year, but my boss did say he "thinks I'll be pleased" so hopefully I've got it in the bag. He knows it's my goal. In any case, I got a fat raise last year without any promotion so if they at least throw some cash my way beyond the usual inflation bump I won't complain too much. Second goal was the love life. Nothing great going on there, but I did have sex, more than once even, so I'll count myself lucky there. Third goal was staying in shape and improving. Lost ten pounds and am now in the "healthy" BMI range for the first time in my life. BMI is bullshit but more importantly I feel great and have been getting compliments from friends and family which is more important than the number on the scale. Only downside here is I kinda screwed my knee which nixed my half marathon goal this October but it's not a lifetime dream or anything so I'm not too broken up about that. Honestly, I live a swell life and consider myself very fortunate. Went through hell to get here but here I am- I kinda just don't know what to do with myself now after "succeeding" the past few years. So for next year, my major goal is to find the "next big thing" in my life. On that note, I hope to move back to my home state of Massachusetts from Virginia where I've been for seven years since coming down for college in 2010. Idk why I'm telling any of you this, I'm boozey and can't sleep (who sleeps on Christmas Eve?!) so I let myself ramble. You asked! Edited December 25, 2017 by 19//curiousGamblerr 1
