I can't recall it ever happening to me, and I just tested (D-28) with a VNE dive from 30,000ft to 4500ft, minimum throttle and maximum RPM. I got a warning about overcooling, but no other issues. Well, I did recall that I managed to break the engine on the T-bolt in Il-2 in the exact same way as I did in DCS. In either case, I wasn't used to the aircraft and handled it in a really hamfisted way. I agree, DCS overdoes that, but the idea is correct, the journal bearing is not meant to take loads in this manner.
