109driver Posted December 18, 2017 Posted December 18, 2017 Hi all, Since the Win10 update on the 12 Dec I have been unable to launch IL2 ...... the main start screen comes up then it disappears .... not even to the task bar .... fails to start fullstop. I changed nothing to cause this .. just the Windows update Suggestions anyone ? I'm desperate to get back flying ! Especially with the new stuff about to drop cheers Mike
ShamrockOneFive Posted December 18, 2017 Posted December 18, 2017 I assume you got the latest Fall Update just recently. It rolled out to different people at different times so I guess its your turn now. No, I didn't have that problem but I did with some other titles. I'd try and start the launcher from the game's directory and see if it works from there. It may be your shortcut that was damaged... I had a couple of applications get their shortcuts messed with. Not sure if they changed something on the file system or what caused it but it certainly happened.

Lemon Posted December 18, 2017 Posted December 18, 2017 like Jade and Mmaruda say, Also , i did the windows update too, and i got no issue, with software like ( winaero tweaker ) ( OOSU10 ) ( Ultimate Windows Tweaker 4.3 )or many other i setup window to not install any drivers automatically, i do manually time to time to not get into those kind of problems, just saying as a suggestion for the future... have you tried to lunch direct from the Il-2.exe ? right click on your desktop short cut, click open file location and try to start the game direct from Il-2.exe not luncher.exe.. if it dont help you can also right click on those 2 .exe files and in compatibility tab click run as administrator and retry. if still not working,you can download latest video driver, and uninstall video drivers with DDU and all the , VulkanSDK and all the Microsoftvirtual c++ in your (add remove program) the redistributable Jade talk about, of windows 10, everything you need will be re installed when you re install video driver.. i remember i had this problem at the beginning but i cant remember how i fixed this one good luck 109driver

Try the function "verifying integrity of game cache" in Steam first. The Windows 10 Fall Update is responsible for it - when I did it 3 days later on my secondary Computer, the very same problems appeared on that one as well.

I've been having problems with nvidia drivers recently and had to revert back to version 388.00 which seems much more stable for me than the newer ones. Gday I bought BoS on steam today .. 109driver Posted December 18, 2017 Author Posted December 18, 2017 NOT HAPPY JAN ! { only Aussies will get that } Tried running as admin through the exe. file ... no luck rolled back video driver { 980 Ti } ...... no luck I rolled back Windows to previous version ....... no luck checked launchers address ..... correct had a brainstorm ... perhaps firewall permissions were changed ... no, all as it is supposed to be then, a complete delete and reinstall of BOM ...... Still no joy and then bloody Windows automatically updated itself again ..... and now Blitz is stuffed too ! Win10 has screwed up royally yet again { for me at least } ..... weird how some have no issues at all, and others, like me, have no end of trouble I'm wondering if its a new build computer with original Win10 install vs say, my 4 yr old computer that upgraded from Win7 Prof to Win10 kind of problem ? I have read elsewhere here on the Blitz forum that players, including myself, were having probs with our joysticks and the USB terminals being "overloaded" ...... Blitz does start if I unplug my joystick { my trusty old Sidewinder 2 in this case } , though hardly a good solution., and this only became a problem after the Win10 update. Interestingly too , DCS runs fine, without issues ................. but I like Sturmovik MUCH better ! Fidelity Posted December 18, 2017 Posted December 18, 2017 Last week I reported a bug to Nvidia's software team concerning issues with this latest driver. It may exist in earlier drivers as well. I had to roll back all the way to a driver from September to get everything running normally. It was so bad it would actually crash my operating system, but when it ran I was entirely unable to run BOX. Another thing you can try is manually setting your startup configuration. Something might be misconfigured and therefore it is incapable of running (Happened a few times to me). If you are using steam with the default location then you can find it here: C:\Steam\steamapps\common\IL-2 Sturmovik Battle of Stalingrad\data\startup.cfg Open it with notepad (or your favorite text editor). While looking at the settings I noticed this at the top of the config [KEY = account] login = "" password = "" I was wondering if this needed the account details in it ??? Iv got the 940v nvidia driver clean installs no rolly backy .. No point reinstalling the game since I only installed it yesterday. Something is blocking the .exe in the launch. Went into the ?:\Steam\steamapps\common\IL-2 Sturmovik Battle of Stalingrad\bin\game Folder and made a shortcut of the il2 exe to the desktop and ran as Admin just because. There are 2 Launch exe's il2 and Restarter both worked, Though Im not sure what restarter is for it is a much smaller exe .. probably to overcome a conflict with two instances of the same exe in play if the main exe gets hung up .. just a guess Hope it helps someone else Cheers big ears Stick out
109driver Posted December 21, 2017 Author Posted December 21, 2017 IL2 BOM is still failing to start after exhausting all suggestions .................... hit Launcher , the loading mini screen appears, hit Play the full loading screen appears then disappears to desktop ..... showing nothing running in the taskbar ..... it doesn't reach the log in page tried opening il2exe and launcher as admin in the game folder ...... same result deleted / reinstalled IL2 BOM ....... not the Steam version, mine is direct purchase deleted all old redistibuitables / "repaired" the latest latest WIN10 { the bastard that started this whole thing } latest Nvidia driver for my 980Ti ..... the same driver was installed prior to the WIN10 update last week and I had no issues with any of my flight sims checked all firewalls / permissions I'm getting over this, and more desperate by the day Any suggestions from the devs ? Please ? 109driver ......... very sad face

ctassel Posted December 21, 2017 Posted December 21, 2017 Hello, I have the exact same problem. As well on Steam as on the official launcher, it is impossible for me to start the game. The window opens and closes instantly. No error message is displayed. I tried to reinstall the game several times, run it in Administrator mode, uncheck the "Read Only" checkbox in the folder, reinstall the redistributable from the source of the game, update the GPU drivers, try to reinstall the game on another Hard drive and on another directory, control firewalls, cut MSI processes (Nahimic can apparently cause conflicts with Il-2) but nothing does. I'm also on Windows 10 up to date. My configuration: -Intel i7 7700k -32GB RAM -MSI GTX 1080 -msi Z270 -SSHD 2TB If anyone can help me, I would be very grateful!

Lemon Posted December 21, 2017 Posted December 21, 2017 if you still willing to keep trying things, some people talk about to try some things they claim it worked for them : -windows, setting,gaming tab, disable record game clips option -right click again on your luncher.exe, disable or enable things in compatibility tab, like (disable full scree optimization,override high dpi thing) -disable nvidia DSR for testing purpose if you got it on, try basic options, and try with no overclock i d say too : download this tool, not the one with the most options but no installation it s just a click and run ,safe and easy to use and often updated: https://www.oo-software.com/en/shutup10 and at the (windows update) section, click on the first 8 options, not the 3 last one, so Windows wont try to upgrade your drivers automatically without your authorization and re install manually video and audio drivers and always do a restore points before doing major changes.. again good luck and say if something work please !
