So exactly when do I have to hit "CTRL 1" to shut down ASW? (oculus rift)

I always do it once my aircraft spawns on the field and I always make sure numpad lock is on.

You can also do it via the Oculus Tray Tool, I use it and have a profile set for BoS to have ASW off along with my SS setting for it.

Give it a try and see, I guess depends on how well your rig runs BoS in VR.

 

I found I prefer it off, even though my framerates can dip down into the 60's when a lot of action is going on - it is still very smooth to me and I don't get the graphic anomalies that come with ASW being active.

Ctrl 2 is also an option if you are already below 60 fps average especially. You will have smoother translational movement speed, and your gpu will stay cooler and under less pressure, while maintaining internal vsync to 45.
