Wolfram-Harms Posted December 14, 2017 Posted December 14, 2017 (edited) Here one of my few videos - a kind of tribute to a great fighter, to a great aircraft engineer, and to the Russian people who fought back another attempt of invasion. Salut! (Can't get the anthem out of my head, since I made the video - a moving piece of music!) [Makesure you watch it in full HD resolution] Edited December 14, 2017 by Wolfram-Harms 2
=EXPEND=13SchwarzeHand Posted December 14, 2017 Posted December 14, 2017 I think you called him yourself, by leaving your navigation lights on (btw, it wasn´t a yak 1b but just a normal ser 69 that shot you down) 1
JG27*Kornezov Posted December 15, 2017 Posted December 15, 2017 (edited) Let's analyze the situation: 1. Team tactics Your wing-man was smoking something while you were chasing the Yak. Normally it is his responsability to cover you while you chase the Yak, you cannot chase a maneuvering target and check your six. 2. Gunnery You had countless shooting opportunities, at 1:00 you had him in your gun-sight, what are you waiting with all the lights ON? Christmas? 3. Risk management Do not get me wrong, I got shot down yesterday the exact same way. Even if I have damaged the yak in front of me, his help came immediately. Anytime, you focus on a single enemy you are burning the candle from the both sides, sometimes you get lucky, sometimes not really. 4. Enemy action I disagree calling this guy an ace, while you presented him a nice hanging in the air target with lights on visible from kilometers. You did the emergency landing right.Nice video by the way, keep doing it. FTC_Riksen Posted December 15, 2017 Posted December 15, 2017 Don't get me wrong, it is a nice video but full of mistakes like Kornezov pointed out. In the end, however, it is just game and what matters is if you had fun. Cheers and thanks for posting it
JG27*Kornezov Posted December 15, 2017 Posted December 15, 2017 (edited) Analysing a tactical situation is really necessary exercise. You learn so much by doign that. I also get more insight in the process. Something interesting about shooting. There are a lot of discussions about when and at what distance to shoot. How to get it right? Actually a lot depend on the circumstances. For example when you have an energy advantage it is better to shoot a little later and use the time to align better towards a position where you cannot miss. The early shooting when you miss makes you visible for the ennemy. However the situation in this video is exactly the oposite. You have angles advantage, being right on the yak's 6. However you do not have energy advantage over him, and he knows you are there. Then shoot early while you still can, otherwise he will get into his high G turns and you did not have the energy advantage or skill, or too heavy on fuel to cut in. In that case shooting earlier: 1. provoques him to make a mistake a/ making defensive jinks that will loose energy b/ increases his stress level; some people really do not make their optimum performance under stress c/provoquing him to make something stupid, like if he has the speed advantage to disengage to actually turn 2. the low deflection shooting makes highly likely to score actually a hit. If you damage him your chances of staying in the turn even at coenergy icrease dramatically 3. you can even destroy him if you get really lucky (don't count really unless you are Rambo or Elanski in a Lagg3 LOL)The disadvantages are: 1. Everybody see the tracers. 2. If you get him smoking behind ennemy lines things get really risky as even if someone missed the tracers won't miss the trailing smoke. So your safe time at his 6 is reduced. As it puts you and your wingman at a greater risk.So tactical situations are really different one from another and there is a high degree of randomness that makes the game really interesting. Wolfram-Harms Posted December 15, 2017 Author Posted December 15, 2017 Guys, this video was not made for analysing. I am a beginner with IL-2 WW2 flying, but I can see what I/we have done wrong. It is a video I made like a little film rather - a video to tell a little story. 1
IckyATLAS Posted December 17, 2017 Posted December 17, 2017 Every opportunity to learn and improve is one nail out of the coffin. Nice video. I enjoyed it. Thanks for posting.
LuftManu Posted December 17, 2017 Posted December 17, 2017 Nice video,I enjoyed it! Don`t worry about some comments...so many "aces" here
Wolfram-Harms Posted December 18, 2017 Author Posted December 18, 2017 Don`t worry about some comments...so many "aces" here I am sometimes really wondering, how the real WW2 aces would survive in a server like TAW - since there is a chance they might run into Galland, Hartmann, Mölders, Rall and Barkhorn - all in one Mission! (Sorry to the Russians - replace names with Russian aces!) Maybe even the best could not survive that very long. So it's good that we can fly again after falling - and bad at the same time. Chances are simply too good to get better and better and better... ...which I mustn't worry about too much - it could mean a loooong time for me... 1
JG27*Kornezov Posted December 18, 2017 Posted December 18, 2017 (edited) You forget that flying high performance airplane is very different than playing a sim. You do not get the G forces for a starter. Anybody can pull the stick and apply and sustain full g in BoX, not true in real life. I find your sense of humor not very appropriate, I already regret the effort to put in writing the errors you made and trying to help you. Not worth the effort. jokerBR Posted December 18, 2017 Posted December 18, 2017 Liked the video, initial song is from the movie "Drive", wich I watched at least 4 times. Flying alone in MP is hard, very few 1vs1 opportunities, if any. Cheers.
Wolfram-Harms Posted December 18, 2017 Author Posted December 18, 2017 (edited) Thank you all for your nice comments and helps, guys! I find your sense of humor not very appropriate, I already regret the effort to put in writing the errors you made and trying to help you. Not worth the effort. Hey, hey, don't be so touchy, man! You know nothing about my humor, cause you don't know me - and the stuff we write in a forum, is always without the tone it is said in, and without us seeing the faces of each other. This often leads to misinterpretations, as I have seen many times in other forums. And then, everybody can have a bad day. Or use the wrong vocabulary (not all of us are native English speakers). I once answered a guy, who had told me something, which I had not fully understood: "So what?" I meant to say something like: "What do you mean - I still don't get it?" But in England and America, it seems to be used for "I don't care!" or "Not interested!" Damn, and I had thought I was quite good at English - back to school, boy! So, this is my advice on you: try to keep all this in mind, when you read in a forum. I appreciate your attempts to help me (or anyone else), Kornezov (and Riksen) - I really do. Thank you for the effort! Edited December 18, 2017 by Wolfram-Harms
Wolfram-Harms Posted December 18, 2017 Author Posted December 18, 2017 Liked the video, initial song is from the movie "Drive", wich I watched at least 4 times. Liked this movie too and have seen it twice so far! The tune is "Tick of the Clock" from the CHROMATICS-Album "Night Drive". [The other is - of course - the moving National Anthem of Russia]
BubiHUN Posted December 18, 2017 Posted December 18, 2017 Lol. You made so much mistakes. But you can learn from them. Btw, even the most less experienced rookie player from our squad would shoot you down with a bloody stuka. Just saying...Nice video anyway
Ghost666 Posted December 18, 2017 Posted December 18, 2017 I liked the movie, and now I can't get that song out of my head. BTW you made maybe 14 less mistakes then I would have.
FTC_Riksen Posted December 19, 2017 Posted December 19, 2017 Wolf ... like I said, it is a great video and a nice effort from you. Don't be discouraged by criticism. Even the experienced make mistakes. Like I said, it is about having fun and I bet you did not only by flying but also making the video. See you in the skies friend!

It's called English language. Just saying...
Wolfram-Harms Posted December 19, 2017 Author Posted December 19, 2017 (edited) Thank you all, gents! Wolf ... like I said, it is a great video and a nice effort from you. Don't be discouraged by criticism. Even the experienced make mistakes. Like I said, it is about having fun and I bet you did not only by flying but also making the video.See you in the skies friend! Oh yes, I sure have fun with both, the flying and the video making. The flying is quite different to "Rise of flight", where everything is much slower and you have a much better vision. But I am making progress. Like learning that a Bf109 must not turn-fight a Yak, when you can boom and zoom with that booster. A huge problem still: identifying who is friend or foe - I hit my own wingman! Dammit! But we won't give up - it all just looks so good that even only flying without any contact is sheer fun! Leon_Portier Posted December 26, 2017 Posted December 26, 2017 Why didn´t you shoot him down at 0:51?
Wolfram-Harms Posted December 26, 2017 Author Posted December 26, 2017 Why didn´t you shoot him down at 0:51? I'm wasting too much ammo, and so I do not shoot when I'm not sure I can hit him. He was making wave movements up and down, and you can waste a lot of ammo that way. Now I prefer to go closer.

I like the cuts in the movie, giving a good awareness.
