dburne Posted December 23, 2013 Posted December 23, 2013 Hey gang, This may be a dumb question on my part: Currently there is no Anti Aliasing setting in the BOS graphics GUI. I do not as of yet have a Nvidia profile made up for BOS, so my graphics driver is only loading the " global settings". And in the global settings, AA is set for use the application's setting. Apparently we are getting some form of anti-aliasing correct? I mean it would sure appear to be from the image quality. So what are we getting and from where?
LLv24_Zami Posted December 23, 2013 Posted December 23, 2013 In the Bos data folder is startup.cfg and there is multisampling option. It is set to 2 by default. There is some AA used in game for sure
YoYo Posted December 23, 2013 Posted December 23, 2013 No antialiasing but anisotropic. Setup x8, looks pretty well: http://i921.photobucket.com/albums/ad52/rafikst/IL-2%20Battle%20of%20Stalingrad/2013_11_25__20_50_44_zps6d07844c.jpg~original . In driver of GPU I have default (like in RoF) - all aplications controlled. In the future will be supersamplng (now You can change it in config ini but it costs framerates. Maybe AA will be too?
Sim Posted December 23, 2013 Posted December 23, 2013 (edited) Anisotropic filtering has nothing to do with anti-aliasing. There is some sort of a "hidden" anti-aliasing in game. Curious what kind it is.. (could be some kind of post-process anti-aliasing? SMAA?). And why the anti-aliasing settings option was removed (like we have in RoF). Edited December 23, 2013 by Sim
Fifi Posted December 23, 2013 Posted December 23, 2013 The ROF antialiasing is very heavy on perf when set to X8, maybe that's why it's still not implemented in BOS? But even without yet, BOS looks nicer than CloD on my rig, on that particular point.
LLv34_Flanker Posted December 23, 2013 Posted December 23, 2013 S! I do not use any kind of antialiasin on BoS. It looks nice even without it
Lextor Posted December 23, 2013 Posted December 23, 2013 I also wondered about that, would be nice to hear an explanation from dev team. Now there is clearly not enough AA, and forcing it in drivers is not an option. Because it is not optimal, doesn't give good results, distorts fonts and other UI elements.
dburne Posted December 23, 2013 Author Posted December 23, 2013 Yeah it looks really good on my system, it sure would seem there is some form of anti aliasing in there coming from somewhere.
Zoring Posted December 23, 2013 Posted December 23, 2013 As far as i know it can only be forced on with the nVidia control panel. Works well, looks super.
J4SCrisZeri Posted December 23, 2013 Posted December 23, 2013 I tried forcing it via the nvidia panel. Didn't notice much difference, but I have to admit BOS looked very good "out of the box" before trying to tweak things. Im very satisfied so far, considering the alpha stage, when I am still struggling to find my ideal settings for other games (you-know-what-sim)
Matt Posted December 23, 2013 Posted December 23, 2013 Forcing it through the NVIDIA panel doesn't work for me at all. But i can live with the current ingame setting.
71st_AH_Mastiff Posted December 23, 2013 Posted December 23, 2013 I use it in NVIDIA 331.93 and I use the IL2 Bos Exe icon for forcing it.
DD_fruitbat Posted December 23, 2013 Posted December 23, 2013 (edited) I also force through the nvidia control panel. Edited December 23, 2013 by fruitbat
kestrel79 Posted December 23, 2013 Posted December 23, 2013 There's some jaggies for sure, but it's nowhere near as bad as CoD. I'm sure they will add something down the road once the game is optimized perhaps? Playing on 3 screens it's more noticable.
Heywooood Posted December 23, 2013 Posted December 23, 2013 I have AA forced on in the Nvidia control panel also - works great - same settings as ROF
Rjel Posted December 25, 2013 Posted December 25, 2013 Through the Nvidia control panel I use these settings. Jaggies are minimal.
