Guest deleted@30725 Posted December 12, 2017 Posted December 12, 2017 Hi Guys. I'm doing a tour of Germany next year and as part of the trip I'm interested in going to a, ideally ww2 museum, but I'd also like to see the german mig 29s so I'm OK with jets too. Any ideas for which one would be the best. Location isn't an issue. I've got some in mind, but interested in Getting more ideas.
TAAC_Blue Posted December 12, 2017 Posted December 12, 2017 (edited) The Technik Museums in Sinsheim and Speyer are very cool and about 30 minutes apart if I remember correctly. Also stumbled on Flugausstellung Hermeskeil when I was driving to Trier one day. Trier is a nice place to visit as well. Edited December 12, 2017 by II./JG77_BlueCordBandit
MacLeod Posted December 12, 2017 Posted December 12, 2017 was at Sinsheim this week and liked it a lot. It does not have many wwii models, but you got a fw a8, a 109 g6, a he111 and a ju88!
Brano Posted December 13, 2017 Posted December 13, 2017 I've been to Sinsheim and Speyer several times during my business trips to Germany. I highly recommend them (and they are not only about aircrafts). I also visited one smaller museum in Hannover (and touched Fw-190 when nobody was looking ). From there it is not so far to Munster tank museum. It's awesome
1/JSpan_Wind75 Posted December 13, 2017 Posted December 13, 2017 (edited) http://www.flugmuseum-messerschmitt.de/ But if you can afford it, go to the Duxford Museum on the dates of flying legends 2018 Edited December 13, 2017 by 1/JSpan_Guerrero
6./ZG26_5tuka Posted December 13, 2017 Posted December 13, 2017 (edited) Berlin Gatow is one place to visit. Huge collection of cold war era aircraft (especially soviet) and WW2 and WW1 aircraft across 2 hangars. Entrance is free as well. You can easily spend an entire day or two there without feeling bored. While you're there, the Deutsches Technik Museum Berlin also has a seeworthy collection including sections of the last Fw200 that is currently undergoing restoration. Sinsheim&Speyer are recommendable as well although their collection of WW2 avaition is limited. Edited December 13, 2017 by 6./ZG26_5tuka
Brano Posted December 13, 2017 Posted December 13, 2017 Berlin Gatow....thats the one I never have time to visit. Not enough time inbetween connection flights
6./ZG26_5tuka Posted December 13, 2017 Posted December 13, 2017 Their lineup of Mi24 is just amazing, I think they got every model except the A. Have to revisit Gatow again since I missed the WW2 hall (was closed for refurbishment)
Guest deleted@30725 Posted December 14, 2017 Posted December 14, 2017 Awesome guys, so many good suggestions. It's going to be hard to decide on just one!
StaB/Tomio_VR*** Posted December 14, 2017 Posted December 14, 2017 U need to book very early for Messerchmitt museum however There is one visit per month for 25 peoples only
HansHansen Posted December 14, 2017 Posted December 14, 2017 Sinsheim and Speyer are two very impressive museums indeed. Lots of aircarft you often times can inspect closely and many other pieces like cars there as well. However I think the quality is suffering sometimes (*cough*JU88*cough*FW190*cough*) Probably one of the best (quality wise) is near Munic, Flugwerft Schleissheim. It's the aviation "outpost" of the Deutsches Museum Munic, on a historic airfield. So if you are planning on visiting the souther part of Germany (which i highly recommend), I suggest you pay them a visit. They have for example a Do24, Do31, a CASA 111, and losts more And while you're in the area I can also recommend visiting Deutsches Museum as well. Despite having many aircraft at Schleissheim, the museum near the city center still has many rare german WWII aircarft like Bf108, Bf109, Me 163 and Me 262. Some WWI planes and 20s and 30s aircraft, too. In case you want to spend some more days in the south I also suggest going to lake Constance. Not only a beautiful landscape near the alps, but also with the Zeppelin and Dornier museum in one city (Friedrichshafen).
