New player multiplayer?

Recommended Posts

Just getting into IL2BoX even though I've owned it forever and played the original way back. I've been playing single player using a mix of Normal/Expert, doing the CEM for the most part but leaving the icons on to help with ID'ing aircraft.

Honestly War Thunder has been my go-to for vehicle based multiplayer in the past but I'm definitely interested in trying IL2. If I wanted to dip my toe in the multiplayer water where would be a good place to do it, especially as new player?

Thanks for any advice! :)

AstroCat,

If you're comfortable with flying your aircraft and CEM etc then I'd say jump right in to MP.  There are a lot of servers out there ranging from dogfight to more campaign based scenarios.  Wings of Liberty is popular but can be home to those who take off in whatever direction they spawn in regardless of where the runway or taxiways are.  That's not to condemn WoL in anyway or those who fly there, just want to make that clear.

KG4 frequent the Finnish server, it's settings don't have icons in the world or for the map.  Good missions, good targets, good fun.

Whatever server you go to I'd recommend jumping on their TeamSpeak if it has one.  It adds to the whole experience and aids teamwork.

Get stuck in.

Thanks, there was another thread in general with someone asking kinda the same thing... some good tips there too. I've jumped in a couple servers now to check it out, fun so far. :)

I'm in the same position. I'm feeling pretty competent with the Yak-1 and Lagg-3 and engine management and maneuvers and such. I'm about to start jumping into some multiplayer. So far it has been well worth the learning curve!

Your first dogfight in multiplayer is going to be like nothing you have experienced with AI. You palms will be sweating, heart thumping as you fly your plane to the best of your abilities.

Enjoy! but don't become dissuaded by being shot down a lot at first. There are some incredibly skilled pilots online with thousands of hours experience.

Welcome to the start of a long but rewarding journey!

I just want to say that if you have only been flying single player then no matter how skilled you think you are be prepared to die a lot at first.  Humans do not fly like AI pilots and are usually better pilots.   Stick with it and take each death as lesson to make you better (though some of us never learn :-) )

I'm sure this will be the case! But yes, every loss is an opportunity to learn. Which reminds me... I need to get TacView set up. Does the game allow you to record multiplayer flights?

If the server has its configuration set to allow it then yes.

Great. Thanks!

But not usually *during* the fight.  You need to run Tacview off the Track file.
