Map View Redesign

Recommended Posts

Whilst I like the map view, a few key features could be added:

  • Firstly, in the specification tab, when I exit the map view and reopen it, the details disappear, and my place is not saved. Scrolling down (as a new player) to find the details on engine power & time is a little tedious, and I would love it if your place was saved (even if you purposely close the tab or switch to mission tab).
  • Second: A nice compass with 3 features on it: 1: A button at centre of magnet in order to move it (so you click and drag the magnet onto your current or expected location), 2: a button near the arrow at the other end of the compass so that the arrow points at your mouse cursor (so you can point the compass at a point you want to go to). and 3: A nice display of whatever bearing you are given. The north arrow would always point north, so this would be easy to read anyway, but it would be good to have.
  • Thirdly, a scale. The grid squares give me nothing, and estimating an ETA is useful.

Thoughts?

There is a Scale.

Grid squares are 10km

Also the little squares a 3km. As for directions, north is always up on the map. Given that knowledge and a few landmarks navigation isn't all that hard, with a little practice. Granted you probably won't get the exactness to modern standards, within a few meters, with all the fancy GPS stuff. But visual navigation can get you where you are going. If you want to be fancy you can use fixed distance/speed timed navigation, like the old timey bomber pilots did but that will require a bit of prep work, though to really do it well in game you would need a few more tools - namely a protractor and a ruler. But even still it can be done with the game as is, just in a 'ball park' fashion.

Good to know, but this is not marked. :)

Ability to make waypoints like you can do with http://il2missionplanner.com

Only if there is an option to turn on and off a visual 3D marker (I don't want to be able to see it magically floating)
