Hauksbee Posted December 6, 2017 Posted December 6, 2017 (edited) About ten days ago, my copy of "Battle of Stalingrad" arrived in the mail and I promptly installed it. Real Life has prevented me from getting much flying time, but I've launched the sim several times to familiarize myself with the UI. I've also seen a few YouTube videos featuring the Hs-129 and became very eager to fly it. But it was not listed in "Battle of Stalingrad". I posted a query here and was told that the Hs-129 came with "Battle of Kuban". I promptly bought the pre-release BOK Premium and I'm awaiting its arrival. But some strange things have been happening. First, my Forum posts have a gold bar under my avatar which reads "BOK". But there is no bar with "BOS". I found that odd. When I first launched "Battle of Stalingrad", I navigated to the "Choose Mission" page and selected a simple two-plane duel. My plane was the default IL-2 and in the list of German planes, there was the Hs-129. I was pleased to see there was a non-flying version and promptly chose it. (thinking to myself that I'd wait until "Battle of Kuban" arrived and I'd sit in the Hs-129 pilot seat then.) We circled each other warily for a few minutes and I got called away from the computer and that was that. This morning I did it again. But this time when I arrived at the opening screen (the IL-2 in the hangar) the title bar in the right hand panel said "Battle of Kuban" Again: very odd. When it was time to choose aircraft, I found my plane pre-selected. It was the Hs-129. I clicked ACCEPT and found myself at 3000m behind the controls of a Duck. From my previous query, I was given to understand that even if one owns "Battle of Kuban", the Hs-129 is a separate "Collectors" purchase. (Not that I'm complaining) Can someone help me sort this out? It seems as though "Battle of Stalingrad" has automatically updated itself, improbable as that seems. Or is the BOK disc still going to arrive in my mailbox? Edited December 6, 2017 by Hauksbee
mrvile Posted December 6, 2017 Posted December 6, 2017 If you pre-order BoK, you get the two collectors planes (Spitfire, HS 129) automatically. Pre-order also gets you the gold bar under your forum name. You don't get gold bars for regular purchases, so no BoS gold bar for you (or me). I do digital purchases, no physical discs, so when I bought the BoK pre-order, the Kuban map and released planes were available for me to use in QM after logging in. I imagine it did the same for you too, given that it is all tied to your account. I'm sure you'll eventually get your BoK disc, but man we live in the 21st century so you can play with your new toys right away thanks to the internet. 1

This although I'm uncertain that BOK was offered in DVD format - that'd be rather pointless.
216th_Jordan Posted December 6, 2017 Posted December 6, 2017 Hauksbee you install of Il-2 has ALL content available, by buying parts of the series you unlock these contents without the need of further downloads. You have a BOK bar because you are a preorderer of BOK, you were not a preorderer of BOS so you have no BOS bar. All Content available for Kuban is also available to you now. Hs-129 is a collector plane but included in the BOK premium package (which you bought).
mrvile Posted December 6, 2017 Posted December 6, 2017 (edited) This although I'm uncertain that BOK was offered in DVD format - that'd be rather pointless. I don't think my computer even downloaded anything after I purchased BoK. I bought it online, started the BoS launcher right away (which didn't update), booted the game, logged in and all the available content was just there to use. I think making the purchase just unlocks the content in my account. Since all the Battle of X packs can be purchased and played independently, they could technically sell a physically copy of each expansion as a standalone and I guess the install would just be the same across all versions, with whatever you have access to determined through your account. But I have not been able to find physical copies of any of the expansions besides BoS, so you're probably right. Edited December 6, 2017 by mrvile
Cpt_Cool Posted December 6, 2017 Posted December 6, 2017 Everything gets installed with the updates weather or not you "own it" because everything is integrated into one platform. So when you buy BOK for instance, it unlocks the BOK content which has already been installed by previous updates.
kestrel79 Posted December 6, 2017 Posted December 6, 2017 Good to see another Wisconsin flight simmer! Welcome. I agree it's hard to find time to fly last few years honestly with a sim this hardcore. I usually just do quick mission free flights or 1 on 1 dogfights to enjoy this sim.

Does this mean that "Battle od Bodenplatte" is secretly lurking on my computer waiting to be unlocked? Good to see another Wisconsin flight simmer! Welcome. Are you anywhere near the Madison area?

Does this mean that "Battle od Bodenplatte" is secretly lurking on my computer waiting to be unlocked? Well, not yet The devs have their own versions (Dev-version), once features are ready there they will be merged into the main development and released. Depending on the type of content either all players get it or if it is specific content you get it for the specific products.

Do check out some of the SP missions that people are offering in the Mission Builders' Forum. Some of them are Long and complex, but some of them are short and straightforward. There are some great Little experiences to be had. Slowly there are some scripted campaigns being offered - free, gratis and for nothing (except the blood, sweat and tears of the Mission builders) and often they're great, as are the official scripted campaigns in the shop! Lots to do, lots of fun to be had! (Apologies for the random capital letters. Bloody stupid German autocorrect on the work Computer!)
