Land of Mine

If you haven't seen the film then I strongly urge you to do so.  It does for mine clearance, what "Das Boot" did for ships with buoyancy issues.

It's a Danish film, so you will need subtitles, unless you speak Danish (or German ?).  If you're a little sentimental you might want to have a hankie available, to dab your eyes, just in case.  I watched it on Amazon prime so if you're signed up, you have no excuse.

Really, still here ?  What are you waiting for, just go and watch it.

Saw it about a month ago. It was fair to good. 3/5 stars.

I was fairly disappointed when I saw it. I thought the drama seemed rushed and shallow with very little depth to the characters. It was not bad per se, but it absolutely didn’t live up to the hype it had received here in Denmark.

Fantastic film. Not sentimental or predictable, absolutely recommended.

I think it was a really good film. Of course it shall be watch in the cinema to get the best out of it.
I give it 4/5 stars.

Reasons for not giving it 5 stars is that it is a bit historical incorrect. It was not a Danish officer who was in command but a British one.

Very good film, highly recommended.

@Finkeren: you're somewhat strange in your findings. This rich in content movie you can't enjoy? But at another place here in forums you recommend that (if you will excuse me) really poor b-picture-series "Night Witches"? Bad fate for the brave ladies to be "honored" by such a botch.

It’s all about expectations. My expectations when seeing “Land of Mine” were extremely high, and it didn’t live up to it. Conversely for the Star Media productions my expectations were rather low when I first started watching, and they exceeded those expectations.

Btw: There is way more depth and appeal to some of the characters in “Night Stallones” and, especially, “The Attackers” than there was to any character in “Land of Mine”.

I’m not saying “Land of Mine” is bad. It just didn’t live up to the hype.

I just rewatched “April 9th” tonight, and I would recommend it over “Land of mine” to anyone wanting to watch a Danish movie about WW2. It’s a very small film in scope - takes place over less than 24 hours and focused entirely on the experience of a bicycle platoon from Haderslev during the German invasion in 1940.

It doesn’t concern itself with deep character studies, but it meticulously recreates the events on that day and is realistic, bordering on filmed documentary, intense and harrowing.

Cheers, I'll keep an eye out for it.
