Multiplayer experiences

Hi all,

first let me put some question: Is it possible to spend the whole weekend by flying in IL-2 BOS ?

The answer is: Yes.

Yes, you can spend how much time you wish and there is no chance you will stop enjoying it.

Thank you  - all of you pilots - for joining the server and fighting on the sky each evening, each day...

Someone would say  - hey you cannot enjoy still flying the dogfights... but I must say - you can. Because the enemy is always sharp and you must protect your brothers, and the motherland needs you. And flying in different aircrafts is always awesome experience, bcs the developers did such amazing job, and one time you take fighter, another one you take striker and the last time you take heavy bomber to attack enemy airfield....and again into the fighter bcs, there is too many enemy fighters and you must revenge yourself.

Have no idea how I will take care about the children (once they will come) when I must shoot the planes on the virtual sky.

Salut!

My wife is going away today for 10 days so there is nothing stopping me from playing BoX non-stop except....   last time I was off work and she was away I ended up with a potentially fatal DVT from sitting still too long and had to inject myself in the stomach with Fragmin for a week and spend 6 months on Warfarin :-)     In all seriousness,  force yourself to get up and stretch your legs now and again.

It helps when you keep the beers in the fridge in the kitchen, away from your flight seat ;)

This sim is the biggest time consumer there ever was.

A weekend you say, sir? If you learn to appreciate all the airframes- bomber, fighter, Blue, Red; it is frightening how much life can be spent playing on these virtual skies.

Truly incredible.

The biggest multiplayer problem is the "wife.exe" or "girl.exe" CTD, i hope for an hotfix.

Better yet, get off your Yak and spend a half hour every day with a different traditional Russian implement

there was a christmas tree lightning up in our town yesterday... and while drinking hot wine I was with my head still by the IL-2 thinking:... "how are the guys fighting without me??" and which plane I will take as soon as I come back home??

It was very long break out there.... whole 1/2 hour .... more I couldnt manage....lol

I had some trouble with Wife.exe too, but I upgraded to Version 2.0 - now, everything works fine. No CTD,

no system overheating, just fine.

You have to install the nap.exe expansion on the Wife module. It's compatible with BOS and great battles collection.

My eyes start to fatigue from constant scanning, so about 2 hours is my limit.

Mine did that too, found out that my disply was too bright against the room lighting. So I upped room lighting to match screen brightness and spotting has become a lot less tiring. Maybe same problem applies to you?

I have only recently dipped my toes into MP.  The first thing that struck me was that Germans outnumbered Russians 3-1 on the three servers that I visited.  I could not in good conscience add to the imbalance so I went Russian.

Achieved my first victory too.  No, I didn't shoot anything down or blow anything up.  I did, however, manage to taxi a laden IL2 to the runway and then perform the smoothest takeoff I have ever managed.  Victory!!!  Flew around for at least 20 minutes looking for something to blow up and generally enjoying the scenery.  Then somebody killed me.  What really cheesed me was that I dropped my bombs when I saw the tracers going by.  As I am trying to evade .. what happens?  I fly right over a damned enemy airfield.  Twenty minutes of looking and I find the thing 15 seconds after I dropped my bombs.

Quick question: this was on a server that did not allow an in game map.  I guess we're supposed to print our own before a mission?

You can simulate it :) hold the stick between your legs (press autolevel) and get the map out (bring up the full screen map) these are available on all servers, not recommended in high traffic areas but good enough to quickly check a landmark or keep up with dead reckoning

"O" is the default binding.  Good luck!

Thanks - I was mindlessly mashing "M" and then wondering how the hell I was going to find anything.

At least in a cooler on the other side of your gaming room.

Online fighting is a huge rush. Just knowing that you are up against human players makes an incredible difference. Single-player feels a bit stale after that.

I still remember the emotions flowing through me after my first kill. The first many kills, actually. The tension is extreme and the elation upon seeing the enemy go down is second-to-none.

nope.. U use the other map the  full screen one. No icons there  but the rivers are suaully enought o know hwere you are after a few hours of practice.

Woudl be wodnerful if someday they add a map inside the cockpit .. one that you need to fold.. unfold flip  to fidn the quadrant you want and  find yourself. That woudl be an AMAZING feature for me :) So much immersion ;)

No. What I want is the ability to draw lines and waypoints on the map while on the ground and see them while flying.  If it would be easier for 1C then just make it possible to import a map made on IL2Missionplanner or just any jpg as IL2Missionplanner lets you save your annoted map as  jpg or it could be that you would rather bring up a picture of your intended target when you press a key.  I don't think it would be realistic to draw lines and angles while flying but it would be nice if I could at least draw a rough 'X' or a circle while flying.  Sometimes when I get lost I find where I am on the map then a few minutes later I open the map again and struggle to find that last position again.  In real life I would have probably roughly marked that last known position.

Exactly. Also being able to draw a line from that maked point to any other point on the map, and obtain a bearing.
