Friendly fire

I often see in public servers on chat the excuses used by those shooting down friendly. One of the most common ones is:

"Hey relax, I said I was sorry, it is just a game"

How provoked I get by that answer. And here are the reasons

  • For many the time spent flying is time away from family, and if you work a lot away from home, that time is valuable.
  • For me, when I fly fighters, I get shot down a lot, many times because I am rubbish at it. But other times due to bad PC and screen I do not manage to identify the target as enemy before it shoots at me first. And I do not shoot before I am 100% sure it is enemy, a luxury I tend to give myself since I am really not risking any other thing than my virtual life. And I assume people time in simulators are valuable for them as it is for me.
  • The time I spend getting altitude, getting on IP , is time I could have spent with my family, it is respect less not to bother seeing the difference between a PE 2 and a BF 110, because you do long before you are in shooting range.

So why does these friendly fires increase with the amount of players? Why do we see the same types of excuses? And why do you seldom see friendly fire when a flying event is happening like FNBF

  • I think people actually in the beginning do not think they waisting other peoples time by friendly fire them, because after all they are there to learn the game before they take it too seriously.
  • I think people flying in orginized form focus on the objective and are sincere afraid to shoot against friendly airplane they suppose to protect, and they do the effort getting situational awareness, where there suppose not to be friendlies and such things.

I think much of this can be fixed if Servers was listed like DCS, push on the server and gain all informations on it without having to connect, there are servers that loosing a plane really sets you back, like TAW. These servers is really not a place for people going in just for a fast fun sortie. There should be a possibility to click and get all the information on the servers that the mission makers and server responsible like to give.

And a reality check to those not caring to much about waisting other peoples time

Because in FNBF, it is taken seriously (not accounting for the little fight on the forums a few weeks back) and so the players are regular and therefore known (or fly with a regular). Therefore players will be more careful with who they engage as They'll easily be identified and could gain a reputation and repercussions. Also in FNBF and WoL stats are more sought after unlike in WoL wich is reset with every round and so you may get 5 or six kills in a week but with a team kill or two it doesn't look that great. Also in WoL it is full of new pilots and casual players who just want to spend a few hours flying and shooting something, even if they don't know what it is and so it it turns out to be friendly they probably don't care
