Moreover, ICDP did 4k-Templates for the P40.

It is actually pretty straight forward, as you can see here.

 

• You can find the viewer in [basedirectory]/bin
• Skins go to [basedirectory]/game/data/graphics/skins/[nameoftheplane]/

 

where Basedirectory depends on whether you have a steam version or bought from the web-shop.

In my case it would be: C:\Program Files (x86)\1C Game Studios\IL-2 Sturmovik Battle of Stalingrad\

In steam it is probably something like \Games\Steam\SteamApps\common\

I am finishing a Milviz Corsair weathered template and I am going to start making a new P-40 weathered template using the links you guys posted

 

the last time I started on a new flight sim was FSX ten years ago, since then it was only P3D, FSX and DCS so it will be an interesting experience for me.
