I purchased a new PC just for this sim. It has windows 10,which I don't think is helping. I know nothing about PC programs, moving files around and such. I was able to do a quick mission once, joystick worked, no trackIR, only cockpit view to right. Now when I go to quick mission and clik on plane on map I get the spinning circle around plane and does nothing else. I think all drivers are installed. I have no steam downloaded from IL-2. So my question is  should I get windows 7 and start over? PC specs are i7-7700k, 32GB DDR4. 240 GB SSD, 1TB HDD, NVIDIA GTX 1060 6GB.

If you got the game working once Windows 10 is likely not the issue.

BoX works just fine on Windows 10 - no reason to screw with rolling back operating systems or anything like that just to solve whatever the problem is here.

Not sure what went wrong, but if you really can't figure out how to make your current installation work properly, maybe you should just move/rename that folder somewhere out of the way and re-install the game from scratch.  Or maybe someone who might have encountered a similar issue will drop by and provide some tips for a fix.

Good luck - the game should work well on your rig (not too sure about the 1060, but I suspect it should be more than good enough, at least if you're not trying to use VR).

Your system should work fine in VR too.

Cockpit view only to the right and spinning in the menu makes me think it's just a controller issue.

Have you clicked 'START'? I know this is obvious, but it is good to make sure.

In general, there is nothing wrong with Windows 10 and Il-2.

Your computer has all the necessary parts to run Il-2 very well. If it still does not work, try reinstalling the game.

Win10 user here. It is definitely not your issue.

Hi Mr. Claude,

as the other chaps already stated - Windows 10 is absolutely no issue. So we should sort out, what could be the problem instead.

1. Your statement "I think all drivers are installed" is not precise nor helpful - check your system thoroughly.

If you right click on you desktop you should be able to select your NIVIDIA control panel. There you can open the system information

of your video card. Check if you got the most recent drivers and if they are installed.

2. Did you check and calibrate your joystick in Windows? Before you use it in the game, make sure it works flawlessly on your system.

3. About installation of your game. Do install your game in a specific folder (C:\games or D:\IL2 f.ex.) - try not to install it as per default

in the programs folder. This might cause some trouble concerning rights management of your Windows system

All in all you have a very good system as a base for this sim - I wish my system would look like yours!

Don't give up! It's worth fiddling a bit around... If you have other questions, please, feel free to ask. There is always help here!

Cheers

Btw.: Steam or not steam - this is also not the question. To install it without steam makes it a bit easier because the folder structure is

        more evident.

There is a windows framework 3.5 which you must download just prior to installing the game. Maybe you bypassed it or simply forgot to install it.

I find it funny that people still blame Windows 10. In my experience it's a much better platform than W7, despite all the Cortana BS.

Check for all the redistributables, run all the windows updates and triple check the drivers.

Avoid software like reshade and Afterburner (or any other overlay) until you find a solution for this.

Agreed. A few questionable design choices aside, Windows 10 is a competent OS.

I do understand that some people are sceptical after the Windows 8 debacle.

I'm absolutely no fan of Microsoft but Windows 10 has definitely nothing to do with Windows 8.

Some say, Windows 10 is what Windows 8 should have been. Well, I from my side must admit

that Windows 10 is really stable and works nearly flawless.

But let's go back to topic and hope we could help Mr. Claude a bit.

Thank's for all the reply's. Fixed the problem, found out my screen was to big and couldn't see the green start  on bottom of screen. Now I have to figure out how to make TrackIrv5 work and finish joystick setup. Thanks to all I'm sure to be back.
