LupusVulpes Posted November 30, 2017 Posted November 30, 2017 hey guys, i just got the oculus yeasterday, and it seems i have problems setting it up for IL:2 Battle of Moscow. This are my system specs... Could you help me setting this thing up so i can enjoy Il2 in VR mode? :DThx.

Could you help me setting this thing up so i can enjoy Il2 in VR mode? :D Thx As a first step I'd recommend running the VR benchmark test outlined in the first post in this thread, and report your findings: https://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/29322-measuring-rig-performance-common-baseline/ That should give you a good idea where you stand compared to others with similar rigs and a good idea of what to expect from yours and what tweaks you might be able to make to get some improvement (short of buying a whole new rig, of course).
No601_Prangster Posted November 30, 2017 Posted November 30, 2017 You're going to need a minimum of an RX480 to replace your R9 380. The 480 is almost 50% faster. Ideally you need a GTX 1080 or a 1080 ti. Also overclocking the CPU to 4.5 or higher will help. BoS is a very demanding game in VR.
HunDread Posted November 30, 2017 Posted November 30, 2017 The only case I get those crazy low fps is when the il-2 window is not the active one. You might have something up forcing itself to be the active window?
chiliwili69 Posted December 2, 2017 Posted December 2, 2017 you have a an old but good CPU (same than mine). So from CPU point of view you should not worry, but you need to do OC. Here you can read how to do it: https://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/29881-overclocking-4790k-better-bos-performance/ Regarding GPU, you would most likely need to upgrade it, but try to run first the VR performance test with 4.6 OC (or more if your temperatures allows). You can try to run the VR test with SS=1.0 (instead of 1.7) and see how bottlenecked is your GPU.
dburne Posted December 2, 2017 Posted December 2, 2017 A better video card would help a lot, like a GTX 1070. Regarding in game settings, insure you run with the HUD off, it is a performance killer. Set AA to 0 also to see how it does, HDR and SSAO off.
LupusVulpes Posted January 31, 2020 Author Posted January 31, 2020 Ok guys, a small update, i just bough the "NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti" Now, i played "IL-2 Sturmovik 1946" actively in a squadron a decade ago, and now that i got a new GPU i want to slowly get myself into the new generation of IL-2 Games, I have the original Oculus Rift, but planing to upgrade to something better when circumstances allow... Now, i need to your help to set up the game as best as possible for multiplayer VR experience... I have played just a few "instant battles" in single player but havent played multiplay at all, didn't even set up everything because i don't even know where to begin. So your help would be appreciated...
chiliwili69 Posted January 31, 2020 Posted January 31, 2020 That GPU is more than fine for the Oculus Rift CV1. You can follow the instructions of the benchmark just to be sure your PC works as it should: https://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/56485-benchmark-for-cpuram-performance-remagen-4002-to-4004/ You should achieve same performance than people with CPU:4790K and GPU: 1080Ti , like me for example. Once you do that and verify you achieve similar performance, (so your PC works OK) then you can also run the benchmark in VR. After the above, you can enter in the game setting adjust part.
dburne Posted January 31, 2020 Posted January 31, 2020 You can also use Open Composite with Rift rather than Steam VR, normally provides better performance. Leaner and meaner. https://www.reddit.com/r/oculus/comments/9nxixe/systemwide_installation_for_opencomposite_released/
LupusVulpes Posted February 1, 2020 Author Posted February 1, 2020 Ok, here are my default benchmark results following the instructions (no VR): Motherboard: ASRock Z97X Killer CPU: I7 4790K CPU Freq: 4397.40 Mhz L3 cache: 8 MB RAM type: DDR3 RAM size: 16 GB RAM Freq: 1.332 MHz RAM Latency: 9 GPU: GTX 1080 Ti (11 Gb) STMark: 2586 2020-02-01 00:47:16 - Il-2 Frames: 17093 - Time: 180000ms - Avg: 94.961 - Min: 67 - Max: 172
LupusVulpes Posted February 2, 2020 Author Posted February 2, 2020 I tried to run the game in VR with the recommended settings in this forum... I get on average 35 FPS and stutter.
Hartigan Posted February 2, 2020 Posted February 2, 2020 Another issue that causes low fps might be a DDR3 with low frequency. 1333Mzh can be bottleneck even with overclocked CPU. My specs: i5 7600K, 5 GHz Ram DDR4, 3100Mzh OC 1080TI 11GB I can maintain 90fps with Reverb 2160X2160 resolution + 112% SteamVr Supersample. Quick mission builder 8vs8 fighters without clouds. Off course motion vector will kick in with career/scripted campaign when lot of ground forces are nearby etc

One bottleneck is your RAM speed, by putting faster RAM (2600 MHz) you should gain good fps between 10 to 16 in monitor). You could also gain some good fps by overclocking your CPU, most of us are doing overclock. Specially for VR. With a 4790K and good cooling you can reach 4.8 GHz easily. This should give you about +8 fps in monitor. You can take a look of the results table. you can also run the fpsVR app and see the frametimes you are achieving while you are playing. So you can see the real load in CPU and GPU.
