[TAW] 'The Prey That Bites' - On Killing a German Ace

When attacking tanks our group of Il-2s got ambushed by several german fighter planes. With not much hope left I push for a counterattack with an unexpected outcome: The kill of a german Ace with my Il-2!

Now that was pushing the IL 2 to its limits and beyond , very good flying and shooting

You need to be overly optimistic to turn towards the nose guns of il2. In my agenda that was not an ace maneuver. Neither the choice of the maneuver nor the execution was ace material. Excellent flying skills on your part though S!. Very good maneuvering in il 2 and awesome gunnery skills.
Check 0:50 the italian had an opportunity to take the advantage by turning towards the tail of the il 2. That was the point of critical mistake. Instead of taking the advantage he placed himself right in front of the il 2 guns. The il2 was really slow and by using nose to nose turn against a slow opponent places your plane right in front of the gun sight of the other plane. This mistake is very common. I also do it occasionally and feel very ashamed of myself.

Yes exactly, I was very happy he made that turn. Well it happens when you're pushed into defensive sometimes you make the wrong splitsecond descisions. Would be boring if all situations could always be mastered

It was probably the same pilot as in this 109 :-)   He basically committed suicide.
