VeryOldMan Posted November 23, 2017 Posted November 23, 2017 Are they talking about the Ta152 or assuming the D9 had the DB603? The report is early 1944. Maybe the luftwaffe had tried fitting a DB603 in a 190 and the RAF had intelligence about it? The 190C had the DB603. It looked like a radial but with a bit elongated nose.

How would they "suggest making combat with" in the report with an aircraft they didn't have possession of ? It doesn't make sense. The Ta 152 entered service in early 45 so they wouldn't be in possession of that bird either. Edited November 23, 2017 by bzc3lk

Maybe the RAF knew the power of the DB603 and factored that in to come up with a 'best guess' for the performance for a hypothetical threat. The Germans knew about the B29 and were planning planes to counter it, despite never getting that hands on one. (That was the USSR's job)
Kurfurst Posted November 23, 2017 Posted November 23, 2017 Are they talking about the Ta152 or assuming the D9 had the DB603? The report is early 1944. Maybe the luftwaffe had tried fitting a DB603 in a 190 and the RAF had intelligence about it? RAF intelligence fantasied everything with crosses on appearing with a DB 603 in the near future, even the early intelligence reports on the Bf 109G speculate that it has an 1700 HP DB 603. And in the case of the 190 the speculation even had some basis, since the Germans themselves heavily fantasized about a 190 with a 603. In the end it got the Jumo 213 which was all well since the 213 was thoroughly comparable in size and power to the DB 603, even the mounts were specifically meant to be interchangeable. 1
r153 Posted November 23, 2017 Posted November 23, 2017 Re-positioning (or extending) is the point where some allied flyers become irate with you and begin cussing you out in chat . Come back here and die like a man - as i Spit-S with a one finger in the air
Dr_Molem Posted November 23, 2017 Posted November 23, 2017 Or... Also... Yeah i guess that 109 was the better plane, after all... (Should i talk about the 6 months that I./JG 26 & 7./JG 26 have passed in Eastern Front during 1943 ? Near 200 air victories for 11 pilots lost)
Wulf Posted November 23, 2017 Posted November 23, 2017 Wulf, didn't we just kill a couple Yaks (or Spitfires) together just last week? Is that you on DED_Normal server because their is a pilot named Wulf there that flies the 190? We were not on comms together but we were fighting together in FW 190s and those guys had no chance. Yeah, that was moi. So where the hell were you when I started getting seal clubbed by AK??? 1
