SCG_motoadve Posted November 21, 2017 Posted November 21, 2017 I gave up long time ago, have they got any better? When I used them nothing happened, was kind of a waste. Do wingmen respond to commands now?
dburne Posted November 21, 2017 Posted November 21, 2017 I use them quite regularly with no problem. Note you have to be flight leader for them to respond.
dburne Posted November 21, 2017 Posted November 21, 2017 I mainly use the following: Attack air target Attack ground target Cover Me Return to Base They appear at least to me, to go for the nearest target when given the command. If I give Cover Me or Return to Base, they appear to disengage if engaged fairly quickly to follow my command. Not always a good thing though for them if done so whilst being engaged with air targets. When they are done with their attack engagement, or I guess out of ammo, they rejoin my formation anyway without being commanded.
Yogiflight Posted November 21, 2017 Posted November 21, 2017 Thanks, do you know if 'do like me' works as a 'drop on my command'? When I used this command for ground attacks, they never did hit anything. When you give the command 'attack nearest ground target', you have to be careful, where you give it, as they indeed attack the nearest ground target, no matter if it is the target you should attack. They will hit the attacked target, but they will all attack the same target and usually rejoin you after the attack, so you have to give the command again and again, until all targets are destroyed. BTW, I would be very careful with the command 'return to base', as there is no possibility to take this command back. If you get attacked by enemies after you gave that command, there is no chance your wingmen will help you.
Retnek Posted November 21, 2017 Posted November 21, 2017 Thanks, do you know if 'do like me' works as a 'drop on my command'? If your formation is intact (slow down speed they can follow) and you choose an initial point at least 20 km away it often works with both forms of order. But don't trust in it, I always prepare a prominent landmark as a turning point for a second run and keep one bomb for that second run if it's really important. Slow enough for a tight formation and heights between 3500 and 4500 seem to be the best preparation. My *feeling* is AI does better after "drop on my command" after a smooth bomb run without problems. "do like me" seems to be more robust against last minute changes, fighter attacks etc. Dive bombing seems to be much more difficult for the AI. Start above 3500 m at minimum and expect a mix of different reactions and confusion. Repeat the order "attack nearest target" several times and stay out of harms way until the AI-planes dropped. They sometimes drop just a few bombs so one can order them in again - might result in higher losses.
