Looking for cockpit information

Hey everyone !

IL-2 rookie here. I've come back to it because I loved the original game back in 2000 or so, and it's such a great pleasure to fly these birds again !

However, I've clocked in some respectable flight time in DCS. Which might help you understand why I'm asking this :

Is there a way to get clickable/interactive cockpits in IL-2 BoS or BoM? A mod maybe? If not, is it something I can expect in future releases or updates ?

Couldn't find any info regarding this, which is a good hint of "nope bye", but I'd like to be certain. Sorry if I missed an obvious post or the like.

I've found a rather old topic here on this forum, which apparently ended up being quite a sterile thread, so I genuinely hope to get a simple answer to this without reviving some old disputes ^^

Thanks, and I hope to see you guys up there (when I'll be brave enough to go online PvP   )

In short: Not now, no mods, most likely not in the future.

This was asked a while back during a previous Q&A with IL-2's Producer (Jason Williams) and the answer, and I'm paraphrasing, was that clickable cockpits were something that needed to be decided early on in the development and the previous producer didn't go that route.

So it seems unlikely that IL-2 will get clickable cockpits now or in the future. IL-2's aircraft are roughly speaking on par with the more advanced Flaming Cliffs 3 DCS aircraft which are not clickable either. There's more of a focus on flying and a little less on managing the systems in the cockpit. As nice as the clickable cockpits are.

Ok !

I suppose I'll have to be better at remembering keyboard bindings then ^^

Thanks for the answers guys

Whlst I really do understand the merit of clickable controls and would like the option if possible it's a pig to implement in VR and that is (in my opinion) where the real future lies.

I have various DCS aircraft (A10,P51,Huey,bf 109) and they are all nearly impossible to control in VR using the look and click option provided, It just doesn't work.

I wouldn't know about that, I'm only playing with a TrackIR, not VR.

I was merely asking because I find it much easier to use spatial memory within a cockpit to understand how and when to use the different systems on a plane. I also quite enjoy the fact that you actually have to manage your situation awareness a bit differently by sometimes looking away from the canopy to deal with say an emergency or a combat related situation.

But these are very personal preferences I reckon, and you're making a good point : I have loads of fun when flying a flanker or an eagle (hell even the frogfoot grew on me after a while ^^)

Now that I know we'll probably never get clickable cockpits, I'll spend a little time adjusting my bindings and it'll be all good !

Thanks again for the quick replies o7
