dburne Posted December 21, 2013 Posted December 21, 2013 (edited) Hey gang, Ok so this week I ordered a new 27" Monitor. I got the Asus VG278HE 144hz LED http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236293 I seem to be getting some distortion in gaming, in flight sims you can see it best in the blue sky. I hope you can see it in the pic, kind of several curved lines that show up when I am looking around the sky. Not just in BOS, I see it in Cliffs as well. I do NOT see it in watching movies or anything else, just my flight simming. I have tried adjusting the monitor in it's settings, had to anyway to do some color adjusting, but no matter what these lines seem to always be there. I do not know enough about these things to know what the deal here is - is this just a result of running a higher refresh monitor and to be expected? Or is there something wrong with the way it is set up, or defective with the monitor? I tell you I have been adjusting this thing to get it looking close to what I want for two days now, and I am about ready to call Newegg and send the dang thing back. I have got it looking good to me now, with the exception of these dang distortions. Anyone here that knows more about these things than me that can maybe shed some light for me? I would sure appreciate any help! Edited December 21, 2013 by dburnette
dburne Posted December 21, 2013 Author Posted December 21, 2013 Ah ok thanks. Maybe I just notice it better now, that I have a much higher refresh rate? Or perhaps the other monitor was calibrated better as well. I will hold off on calling Newegg then, still going to work a little more on the calibration though. Thanks, I appreciate the feedback!
dburne Posted December 21, 2013 Author Posted December 21, 2013 On my screen the banding is hardly noticeable. I tried with SweetFX OFF and ON and noticed no difference. Could be just a case of getting the colour calibrated better ... Ok, I will keep working with it. I think it is a pretty dang nice monitor from what I can tell and what I have read, the default settings it shipped with were just really bad... Thanks,
Panzerlang Posted December 21, 2013 Posted December 21, 2013 I have a Dell 30" (U something or other), properly calibrated and I see banding in a lot of games, so I doubt it's your monitor that's at fault. 1

dburne Posted December 22, 2013 Author Posted December 22, 2013 (edited) Well kept trying to change so many things in the color settings, and getting frustrated - mainly due to what I perceived as washed out look of colors, I ended up going in the OSD of the monitor and resetting everything back to default. After searching the internet on this monitor, I found an .icc file for it and gave it a try, then hit a default scheme and voila - dang thing looks really pretty good now. I still see some of the banding, but heck reckon I will get used to it - after flying a bit in BOS and Cliffs this evening it got to where I was not even noticing it. Thanks again for the help, I think it will be fine now where I have it. And I am loving this 144hz refresh rate and larger display. Time for me to stop messing around with this stuff and doing some flying, after all I am on vacation and time is running out! Edited December 22, 2013 by dburnette 1
