19//Moach Posted November 19, 2017 Posted November 19, 2017 Having been shot down countless times while trying desperately to type a message to the vast majority of users who don't use teamspeak or any form of voice comms, I found myself researching methods of using voice recognition to type while flying. Windows has a built in feature for this, which was my first attempt. It proved dishearteningly unsuitable, alas. Nothing near the near-human ease of communicating with Apple's Siri or Google's amazing voice search system, which makes even Siri feel like talking to my hard-of-hearing grandmother. So I looked for a way to use google's voice recognition for typing. There are various apps, it seems. But I found there is also an API: https://cloud.google.com/speech This uses cloud based processing for recognition, freeing up a user's computer from the non-trivial task of doing it. It struck me then, as a fellow game designer by trade, that this is one feature no other title has considered, simulator or otherwise. And it would be quite a welcome addition to our MP community, who's always desperately short of practical communication. (only an elite few have squadrons and use TS consistently) It would be very convenient to be able to push a button, and have a message typed out, thus reaching the remaining 90% of our voiceless teammates without having to let go of flight controls, often in a do-or-die situation. Just a thought.
Durach Posted November 20, 2017 Posted November 20, 2017 Excellent idea. Thank you for your suggestion.
