Awesome, I appreciate your input and in return I have two ideas I picked up cruising the web, YES I did order the Odyssey:

1. Velour liner to minimize stickiness:

2. Life hack for glasses, hope not to scratch lenses this way, two bumper pads glued together, with the truncated pyramids pushing the bridge of the glasses away:

This is the one good thing about the rift, it's totally usable with glasses, I have pretty big frames, and they work just fine in it. Haven't scratched my lenses yet. They kind of bump into the sides and stay off the lenses. It can get uncomfortable after a couple hours though. With my contacts it never really got uncomfortable, but my contacts suck and dry my eyes out, rather just use my glasses. Good luck and welcome to the VR world.

Thank You!

I measured the lens diameter at 50mm, then I ordered these as an easier alternative to the solution in the above video, will post on results, looks like HTC Vive users review it favorably, from many years of Lamin-X and watch cover applications I would say the use of an atomizer spray container with distilled water is highly recommended (disconnect glasses and let dry for 24h):

I will be checking for wear from glasses lens rubbing, but knowing the material I doubt anything will happen.

Hello friends,

I've bought a Samsung Odyssey and my main issue is the turn angle, it's way harder to check six in VR and after 30 min my neck hurts. This 3Dmigoto mod has helped me to solve the zoom problem. What about turning your head?

Thanks

Not much you can do there, it is 1:1 tracking which personally for me I really like in my Rift.

I myself have a swivel chair, and I use that as much as I can to help me check around me as much as I can. Checking six is difficult, some very limber folks I think can manage - not me very well.

Use situational awareness best you can to prevent them from getting on your six.

Don´t cheat yourself with a swivel chair.

Be brave and feel the same stress of those aces: Use fix chair with tie straps. You wanted immersion, so you have it.

I tried an Odyssey after a few months of the Rift back in January and was not impressed enough to keep it.

A few weeks ago I sent the Rift back for replacement and Oculus customer service is so poor, it takes three weeks for the replacement to arrive.

Of course, I am not going three weeks without VR and I was peeved with Oculus so I bought an Odyssey.

One two hour session was enough to convince me to return it. The visual performance is better than the Oculus but not by a great margin.

The Odyssey is incredibly uncomfortable to wear for long periods and is cumbersome in an intense dogfight. These two things easily cancel out the improved visuals.

So, despite awful customer service, I bought a second Oculus.

Thanks for your report, have an Oculus, bought the Vive Pro, tried to like it, hated the narrow sweet effect, and sound, returned it.

Was thinking recently about buying the Odyssey, now I am glad I didnt.

Still have my Oculus, light, comfortable, no sweet spot issues and good sound, wishing for more reslution.

Will wait for Pimax 5K+

Yeah still loving my Rift, use it almost daily since Jan 2017. Very comfortable for long sessions, and I got the earbuds for it and am pleased with the in ear sound.

And those Touch Controllers just can not be beat for games that have support for them.

For me, I am holding out for a Rift CV2. And that is ok, as I will be sinking some good money into a complete new system build before this year is out.

Will Oculus even make a Rift CV2?

I hope so but , have not seen any announcements.

Of course they will, they have been working on the tech for some time now.

They have shown the gloves they are working on, and they have shown the Half Dome prototype with varifocal lenses they are working on.

Oculus appears to be taking their time working on the tech to help insure a good experience for their next generation PC-VR device. I hope we see some more info at the upcoming Oculus Connect next week, but I am not counting on it. I suspect it will likely be more around 2020 for a release date, but hoping I get pleasantly surprised.

After all , Nvidia included those new Virtual Link C-ports on the just released RTX 2080 cards.

We will see it next monday. But I think they will not announce any CV2 for PC.

They are now concentrated in Oculus Go and Santa Cruz. Something all-in-one for the masses. From stockholders perspective it is what they should do. Also, no clear competitor of Rift so far. Yes, we have all VivePros, Odysseys and Pimax, but all they are only taking about 5% of potential Rift users.

One thing is what we would like to see and another is the crude reality: Make profits

One thing to note is both Nvidia's 20xx cards and AMD's upcoming cards use a new VR Link connector (not sure on exact name, basically USB-C though). It's safe to assume the CV2 will use this new plug as they are among the companies pushing the new standard. This is particularly noteworthy since the Pimax 8k actually runs the same resolution as the Pimax 5k because the physical cable simply can't move enough data for 2x 4k panels at that refresh rate (80Hz I think).

I expect we'll see the CV2 show up sometime in 2019. That gives AMD time to release their cards with the new connector and the new Nvidia cards to release mainstream models (e.g. 2060, 2050 Ti...).

It is called VirtualLink.

https://sites.google.com/view/virtuallink-consortium/home?authuser=1

"VirtualLink is an open industry standard developed to meet the connectivity requirements of current and next-generation virtual reality (VR) headsets. VirtualLink is a consortium defined Alternate Mode of USB Type-C™ designed to deliver the power, display, and data required to power VR headsets through a single USB Type-C connector"

I keep hoping that Nvidia knows something we don't maybe, on when next gen from Oculus might be coming... but who knows.

In any event, this is a good example that VR is still growing and getting a lot of attention for the future.

Good times ahead.

Well, when you are in a dogfight, people with 2D screens have a great advantage regarding this issue

I don´t play multiplayer. But if I will, I will set up a server for VR only limiting the rotation of head

That is THE full expirience of Air Combat, constant movement and struggle for sight and even pain. given that the low FOV makes it a bit harder i have to say i really enjoy that level of realism.

But if your health doesnt allow it i think a swivel Chair is the best/easiest solutions for this.

The last couple of days i had the oportunity to test Lenovo Explorer, since i didnt have a rift anymore.

This made it even clearer to me, how big differences in expiriencing VR still are.

Main reasons i switched back to rift: much much larger sweet spot, ipd adjustable, oled and head strap mounting.

Things i enjoyed with the Lenovo, fast and easy setup, no extra hardware/sensors, overall expirience and implementation into Win10.

Things i didnt like, small sweetspot, no ipd adjustment (headache), head mounting strap felt like a vice after a few minutes (more headache). due to the flip mounting of the display, the hmd wasnt as secured on my face, especially when tilting the head side- and backwards combined with fast movements you could feel it move on your face.

what i am trying to say, although odyssey looks great on paper (good sweet spot, higher Res Oled, no extra sensors), you should really consider the comfort level of wearing the headset over a longer period of time. Especially since Odyssey is considerably havier than Lenovo (645g vs 380g) and has similar mounting as the Lenovo.

Knowing that know, I personally wouldnt switch from lets say the Rift to Odyssey.
