Must be an Intel and Ryzen thing

as you can see from my pic in last post its like very even core usage
yes the rendering engine is on core 0 but memory management is on core 2 and so on

Thanks to everyone for their inputs.

I have finally come up with a game plan :)

A Ryzen 1600 would have been a good option but in my case probably little advantage over what I have/had now, so after much searching I have located an Asus RoG gene V MB and will attempt resorect my rig in a different case I already have, the saving of not upgrading to 8600k/8700k platform has gone into a Gtx 1080 which was stupid expensive here even in a sale!

I hope this was the best balance spend to keep me back in the air for a year or maybe two, Dx12 and true multi threaded optimisation are still a way away, a day hopefully the GTX 1080 will see a real world impact over my 970

Looking forward to your outcome Dakpilot, as I'm contemplating swapping my 970 for a 1080 as well.

I will let you know, hopefully it will not be too long, I have yet to collect the MB

Nice one Dak, I'm sure you're going to enjoy your build.

Personally I've decided to wait for new generation - from the latest news it seems that 9th Intel generation will be yet again "optimized" Skylake, so its all in AMD hands now to deliver upgraded Zen.

So while waiting for a new hardware, I've made a decision to buy a 360 AIO and put it on my cpu to see how far I can push it. It's same old 2600k running at 4.92 Ghz at 1.38 core voltage. Temps are getting high, so I've decided to improve cooling solution and look if I can get into that 5.05 Ghz I want to. Not sure about required core voltage, since in my previous attempts I had to get at least 1.40  to get it actually booted. For safe and stable 24/7 use it may require 1.41-1.42 which is quite high and not sure how safe it is to run it on such voltage for longer periods.

Good to hear you've found a motherboard. I'm sure something worthwhile from AMD and/or Intel will appear in the next two years.

Well after a few hiccups and sidesteps I am finally back up and running

very glad I stuck with my old CPU and spent the money on GPU, got it running at 4.4ghz (seems to be the sweet spot) in the new MB and over the moon with performance

at 4K res I am getting solid 60fps from ground up and in heavy cloud with furball, all at ultra with everything turned up to max and looking very crisp and totally smooth

Am sure in some situations a faster (newer) CPU would give benefits but overall it seems to match up well with the 1080 and copes with everything so far  :)

better result than i had expected

Cheers , Dakpilot
