Flying_Colander Posted November 10, 2017 Posted November 10, 2017 Working on a button/lever box based on Bodnar's BUX board. Under Input Devices I see MOUSE or JOYSTICK. Is this right? Shouldn't I be seeing a third choice: a BUX board recognized as a USB interface device? When I go to KEY MAPPING, the assignments go according to plan. Today, I've been sweating through an encoder. (An encoder records one button press as you roll it left or right.) So I have wired it into two button slots, for the sake of conversation, button 11 and button 12. I tried to map the encoder to the oil or water radiators in the He-111 which, I believe, has degrees of opening or closing. The game records the presses something like joystk_11 and joystk_12. When I try to start up the 111 and twist the encoder, nothing happens. No cockpit animations move. I've tried remapping the encoder to other functions such as prop pitch, rpm and even throttle. No joy. Do I need to adjust a realism setting to control radiators and the like? This is why I tried the throttle mapping to test that theory. What am I overlooking? Probably something small and noobish. What are opinions for assigning radiators? Is a lever or knob better in your experience? Flying Colander
Sokol1 Posted November 10, 2017 Posted November 10, 2017 (edited) Under Input Devices I see MOUSE or JOYSTICK. Is this right? Shouldn't I be seeing a third choice: a BUX board recognized as a USB interface device? You mean in game options? There you should see only Mouse or Joystick for select your preferred control method. "Joystick" there mean joystick+throttle+pedal+button box, etc. Test the BU0836 in Windows Games Control, type joy.cpl in Start of Cortana box, when need been work OK there to be used in game. Other detail is that need set the encoder in Leo Bodnar utility, selecting the Encoder type (normally is 1:1) and "pulse width" - if this is too fast may the game don't see the button press. Use (bf 109) Stabilizer Adjust to test the buttons, this is not depend of "realism" settings like some engine controls. BTW - The advantage of use a lever (when possible) for some controls, e.g. radiator is the visual feedback of control based on lever position, with a knob this is less evident, unless you make a scale for fit under the knob. ST_Pirato Posted November 10, 2017 Posted November 10, 2017 Don't forget to set up the encoders with the Encoder configuration software found on the Leo Bodnar site. Also note that not all combinations of buttons work with encoders. You have to conect them in pairs, like 1 and 2 or 3 and 4. 2 and 3 will not work properly for example.
Flying_Colander Posted November 11, 2017 Author Posted November 11, 2017 Sokol, thanks for the best real time customer support! Again. Good idea about the pulse length. I hadn't even thought of that. I got the problem sorted. Pirato had the answer this time. The card I was working with was inherited. I hadn't configured it myself for encoder knobs so did not know what button combos to use. This was the hiccup. Once I found the right pairings everything was easy-peasy. Tah. Flying Colander
