Is there a really good B-17 F flight sim out there with graphics as good as boX or CloD? If so what? :salute:

If you just want to fly theres a couple of B17 payware for FSX/P3D throw in the tacpack and you can bomb pretty much nothing. CFS nope nothing.

No actually I was looking for a sim not to fly but to use the aircraft for a series of screenshots.I know there are some pretty good G models out there but wondered if any of these included an F model as well rendered up to current standards?

Nope. Simple as that.

Modelling a heavy bomber up to modern flight sim standards in a combat oriented sim is such a tremendous task now, that few would be willing to plunge into a project that big.

Of the one I know, A2A simulations B-17G stands out. It is for FSX, but you can force it into Prepar3d as well. You can drop bombs, but it is more a releasing, as you have no Norden sight and they do not explode. But I can tell you, it is a wonderful aircraft. You can do basic IFR flights with it. The frequencies used back then are not functional. But no matter. Together with Accusim, it is really a great experience.

I keep forgetting how beautiful the B17 is. My favorite bomber since I saw Memphis Belle when I was 5.

When I win the lottery BoX will have a B17F module.

I had the B17 from A2A Simulations. It was good fun.

There is a B-17E in WarThunder, that's pretty similar to the F model visually except for the glass nose.

Yep... I'll add my recommendation for the A2A B-17 + AccuSim.

If only bombers in combat flight sims were done to that level of detail. :sorry:

Then they would also be $50 per plane and you can have 4 of them until you bring your system to its knees. ;)

Seriously, that would be fantastic if you could have a plane detailed like that and participate in those huge formations. For the fighter jocks doing escort, it would be much harder. Flying formation for 3 hours, then maybe (also depending where they are placed among the bombers) some action, then another 3 hours for home...

On such „sim sundays“, there‘d be no time watching sport. ;)

Nonsense - one eye on the sky, another on the ball.

They say it is a good simulation too, I always thought I buy it

It is. What it really has for itself is the persistent state (and wear) of the aircraft. Depeding ob how you use it, your engines, brakes etc will be affected sooner. You really get to know the parts of the aircraft.

And since you can do basic IFR with it and it has an auto pilot (not just the FSX/P3D one), you can operate in English weather.

It makes the flight more of an experience, as it also can draw of the many nice things that are making the difference in Prepar3d. But it is a costly affair in total.

1946 with mods has some reasonable B-17 approximations. Perhaps you are already aware of that.

Of course, the graphics are not exactly modern, but at least real combat scenarios are easy to set up.

Also, it costs almost nothing.

The OP just wants a nice looking F model for some screenshots. It doesn't exist.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys.I looked at all of them. The reason you ask? I was trying to replicate a view of a B-17F to get proper detail & shadows for a painting I'm working on.Here's the sketch

:

The easiest one to call up & manipulate was from Il-2 1946 ( B.A.T. modded) and was adequate but not really up to today's standards. There is a beautiful F model here in Seattle at the Museum of Flight as well , but it has been weather proofed for the winter

Well with one thing or another I can work it out...maybe one day we'll have a European campaign complete with B-17's - I just couldn't wait.
