Maybe a dumb question on my part, but curious.

I currently have two joysticks hooked up and set up for BoS. My Warthog stick that until recently had used for years. And now my Virpil stick. When I got my Virpil stick and hooked it up, I just left the Warthog stick plugged in for the time being. It actually came in handy when I screwed up my first Virpil gimbal, as I was able to just continue flying with the Warthog stick it until I got my second gimbal.

Well now that I have been flying a while with my newer Virpil gimbal, figure I may as well unhook the Warthog and put it away. But I got to thinking, Seems like I had heard that BoS can sometimes re-assign controller id's? Is this likely to happen in my case when I unplug the Warthog stick?

Just trying to be prepared with any precautions I might should take to keep from having to go in and re-assign everything in the game.

Thanks for any tips,

But I got to thinking, Seems like I had heard that BoS can sometimes re-assign controller id's?

Before BoS Windows will reassign ID for remaining stick if he actually use high ID than the removed one - check with "ShowHID" - available in VKB Ftp:

http://ftp.vkb-sim.pro/Programms/

If the remaining stick actually use lower ID no problems, if not is need fix the game assignments, can be done with Notepad in files in Input folder.

Thanks!

Ok so vendor id/product id shows as follows:

03EB/2043  VPC Mongoose T-50

044F/0402 Joystick Hotas Warthog

So then does that mean I should be able to unplug the Warthog and not have to re-assign in any way?

Seems the case, but the thing is that this VID/PID numbers is write in hexadecimal, need "decipher", anyway the device that appear first in "ShowHID" list has lower Windows ID.

Go here........... 1C Game Studios/IL2 Battle of Stalingrad or Moscow which ever one you see/data/Input/device.txt and you will see this

Well not exactly this, but you will see all the controllers IL2 sees on your install.

configId,guid,model|

0,,|

1,%222e1e4b40-486a-11e7-0000545345440680%22,Thrustmaster%20Combined|

2,%22fec80c70-746d-11e7-0000545345440180%22,MFG%20Crosswind%20V2|

0,,

If I don't start TARGET software before I start the game it sees my Warthog Stick and Throttle as separate devices and puts them on there as 3, and 4, I just go in and delete them and I'm good to go.  You can delete the entire entries and restart the game and it will be a fresh snapshot of all the controllers you "WANT" to have hooked up.

Cheers

Well I have not quite worked up the nerve to unplug the Warthog yet lol, will give it a try here soon.

I fly BoS with a CH stick, CH yoke, CH pedals, button box, and Saitek throttle all plugged in. I pull out the button box and yoke before I play Cliffs and have had no problems so far in BoS.

Doesn't mean it's not going to happen though, I've had the stick and pedals switch around quite regularly in Cliffs, when they were the only things plugged in!

If things "goes south", is just ~20 buttons and 2 axis to reconfigure. ;)

Between the Virpil Stick, Warthog Throttle, Crosswind Pedals and CH Throttle Quadrant it is more like 11 axis.

Hoping all my controllers don't get re-assigned lol.

Ya know back when I messed up my first Virpil gimbal, I had it unplugged for a while and when I plugged the new one in all was well with no problem, so guess it will probably be ok.

How did you mess up the gimbal? I'm thinking about getting one, assumed it was pretty much indestructible!

It was mostly my fault. The issue came when I wanted to install the soft center cams. Got one out and replaced no problem, the other one I could not get out. The screw then stripped out easily ( they were using smaller screws in the first batch).

I should have just left it in there, but the OCD part of me did not want to have a soft center on roll and a hard center on pitch. I had success with similar situations in the past drilling a small drill bit into the screw, and then reversing it slowly to back it out. Well did not work for me on this, just imbedded the screw further into the bracket behind the gimbal, resulting in a stuck locked gimbal. Plus the top half of the screw had broken off. Big mess.

Virpil really worked with me and I was able to get a replacement base at a reasonable price. If I had not liked the stick so dang much I would have just not messed with getting another base. Very happy I did. ( they installed the soft center cams and soft springs for me).

I have quite a number of hours now on this Gimbal and I am loving it.

Ouch, a painful lesson!

Yep, that is for sure! In between the two gimbals, I flew with the Warthog again and I was like man oh man, what a difference.

Well I finally did it this morning.

I unplugged the Warthog joystick, rebooted my PC just to be sure, loaded up a quick flight and all my settings for my T-50 stick along with my other controllers remained as they were.

Whew, glad I did not have them change.

My trusty TM Warthog stick that I had been using all these years, is officially retired now.

Mixed up hardware assignments is why I use mapping software for every button command possible.

If the Windows hardware assignments do get mixed up, all you have to do is re-assign the axes, which only takes a couple minutes.
