gad11 Posted November 5, 2017 Posted November 5, 2017 Hi all! I am looking at picking up the Ju-52 and curious what kind of missions are available for it. I usually play with Pat Wilson's Campaign Generator, but the Ju-52 isn't in that. Wondering if the Ju-52 aircraft comes with any missions or random missions particular for that aircraft. Thanks for any info! :D

Gambit21 Posted November 5, 2017 Posted November 5, 2017 Thanks Boaty. 5 missions, single player, not a presented in scripted campaign format, but there's a little story that goes along with it. https://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/28858-single-player-ju-52-missions-gambit-21/ I stopped at 5 so that I could get to work on other things. More to come at some point perhaps. Missions 6 and 7 are commando drop and extraction...almost finished 7 before I abandoned it...I might have to get back to that. 3
Lensman Posted November 5, 2017 Posted November 5, 2017 It's almost literally like flying a small house and has similar manoeuvrability but it's bizarrely quite amusing and I like it. I'm not sure I'd want to spend time enough for missions inside the recalcitrant beast though ...
gad11 Posted November 5, 2017 Author Posted November 5, 2017 thanks guys! I will check out Gamit's missions as well! :D
Gambit21 Posted November 5, 2017 Posted November 5, 2017 AI is not currently flying, forming up/flying formation correctly with the new FM - so the formations might not be working properly until this is fixed by the Devs.
CanadaOne Posted November 6, 2017 Posted November 6, 2017 The Ju-52 is a nice change of pace. You really get to enjoy the landscape and the atmospheric beauty of BOX. But the Ju-52 is screaming for some tricky mountaintop/side airstrips to be included (someday) in the Kuban map. Just for the sheer flying pleasure of it.

And I wish it was possible to overload it. I read a book once about a mission to rescue downed airmen in Yugoslavia. They landed C-47s on a mountain pasture, filled up with downed bomber crews and took off again. Supposedly they were pulling intentional ground loops to stop in time. That sort of mission would be so awesome with the Ju52 and Kuban map! (Some of you might have heard of this rescue mission, idk how I'd never heard of it before reading this book recently) 2
Plurp Posted November 6, 2017 Posted November 6, 2017 You can fly it in the normal campaign, I just flew some supplies into the stalingrad pocket the other day.

That was fun. But now I'm stuck there until some comes and gets me.
twgin Posted November 6, 2017 Posted November 6, 2017 Gambit21's missions for this plane are outstanding, incredibly atmospheric ! The book is: The Forgotten Five Hundred, by Gregory Freeman... I got it at the library, need to read it before its overdue ! Terry
gad11 Posted November 6, 2017 Author Posted November 6, 2017 Good info! Thanks guys! Can you use it in the quick mission generator as well?
WIS-Redcoat Posted November 6, 2017 Posted November 6, 2017 Gambits missions were excellent. I also saw WOL had a mission tonight with the 52... promising to see but after dropping the paratroops and flying an hour I was sad to see it didn’t have any points attached to it. Maybe someday. 1
CanadaOne Posted November 6, 2017 Posted November 6, 2017 Good info! Thanks guys! Can you use it in the quick mission generator as well? Yep. Again, it's a great plane for sightseeing, enjoying the different atmospherics of the time and weather settings, and for tricky landings in nasty weather. It kinda gives the game a civilian flightsim feeling. Nothing blowing up, just a nice plane to fly.
coconut Posted November 6, 2017 Posted November 6, 2017 You can use it on my server to transport supplies to airfields or reinforce ground troops.
gad11 Posted November 6, 2017 Author Posted November 6, 2017 That's awesome coconut. Your server looks like fun!
gad11 Posted November 7, 2017 Author Posted November 7, 2017 You can fly it in the normal campaign, I just flew some supplies into the stalingrad pocket the other day. How does the campaign work? I did a Ju-52 mission yesterday with it, but there is no more. Looks like I have to do a fighter mission to unlock more areas. Is that how it works? Thanks!
hames123 Posted November 8, 2017 Posted November 8, 2017 No. Just keep selecting the Ju52 as the plane you want to fly and keep choosing the supply mission type. Try and stay away from Soviet fighters.
gad11 Posted November 8, 2017 Author Posted November 8, 2017 No. Just keep selecting the Ju52 as the plane you want to fly and keep choosing the supply mission type. Try and stay away from Soviet fighters. Thanks hames! I will take another look. Do you mean just select the mission I already did? There is just two mission 'circles' on the map and the rest are 'greyed' out. One looks like a 'story' mission as I click on it and it gives a narrative. The other is the one where I can pick my type of plane, but I have already done it. Appreciate your time!

The one where you can pick your plane is not the same mission after you have flown once from that airfield in that particular plane. Every time you select a plane and start a mission from that airfield a new mission will be generated for you 1

Jade_Monkey Posted November 8, 2017 Posted November 8, 2017 (edited) They are random, so feel fre to try as many as you want. Sometimes you get really nice ones by chance, sometimes they are too easy. Edited November 8, 2017 by Jade_Monkey
Gambit21 Posted November 8, 2017 Posted November 8, 2017 The Ju-52 is a tough one as far as difficulty goes. When creating my missions I had to walk the line between the player feeling a sense of danger -,yet survivable. You can't really fight back too well - so it's tougher to find that balance vs say a Yak campaign/mission.

xvii-Dietrich Posted November 8, 2017 Posted November 8, 2017 The Ju-52 is a tough one as far as difficulty goes. When creating my missions I had to walk the line between the player feeling a sense of danger -,yet survivable. You can't really fight back too well - so it's tougher to find that balance vs say a Yak campaign/mission. There are other challenges for the Ju 52 than just enemy aircraft. Weather, bad landing strips, AA, night-ops, more Ju-52 traffic at the destination. All of these can be pretty dangerous, without invoking soviet fighters.
Gambit21 Posted November 8, 2017 Posted November 8, 2017 Weather is a good one - but there is still a bug that prevents AI from taking off in winds over 8mps. I reported this bug many moons ago - but it persists.
Jade_Monkey Posted November 8, 2017 Posted November 8, 2017 Thanks Jade Monkey! What unlocks the others? Just time progressing? As far as I know doing one or two successful missions for each side will unlock other airfields for that phase of the campaign

taffy2jeffmorgan Posted November 9, 2017 Posted November 9, 2017 Have been flying the Ju 52 missions supplied by Gambit 21, and enjoying the slow relaxed flights, what i have found is that you have to follow your orders too the letter, in the first mission i decided to land without following the rest of the flight in their landing pattern, and ended up on the wrong side of the strip bogged in deep snow, so had too re-fly the mission, but its all good fun.
gad11 Posted November 9, 2017 Author Posted November 9, 2017 (edited) Sometimes you get really nice ones by chance, sometimes they are too easy. Notice this for sure. Have done a few missions tonight but the Soviet fighters seem pretty chill. They will buzz my plane a few times and not really fire at me often. Hopefully as I progress the Soviets get a bit more feisty in the campaign! :D Edited November 9, 2017 by gad11
